The President of Mexico
Celebrating His Fourscore
Years Today.
City of Mexico, Sept. 15—All
Mexico lx en fete today in celebra
tion of the 80th birthday of Presi
dent Dias and the centennial anni
versary of Mexican independence.
From the capital down to the amall-
est village and hamlet of the repub
lic business is entirely suspended
while the people are. giving them
selves up to the enjoyment of the
elaborate festivities with which the
dual anniversary Is everywhere be
ing observed.
President Dias was the recipient
of congratulations from all manner
of persons in official and private
life, who gathered at the National
Palace to offer their felicitations.
The army officers, members of the
national congress, the Judiciary and
representatives of the educational
Institutions were received during
the morning. At noon the special
representatives sent by the various
governments to attend the centen-
ynlal celebration were j received by
the President In the Hall of Ambas
sadors. The meeting with the
American delegation, headed by
Curtis Guild of Massachusetts, was
extremely cordial.
The entire city Is decked in gay
est attire, and preparations have
been made for an illumination to
night that probably has never been
surpassed anywhere In the world
Fireworks will form the llrst pari
of the. .i^rogmm. -which wnr be car
ed out in the Plata Mayor, where
thousands of spectators will assem
ble. A striking feature will be a
pyrotechnlcal'fountain. Heroic por
traits ot Morelos and General Vin
cente Guerrero In lire will be pre
sented. Another presentment In
pyrotechnics will be the standard of
Htdalro together with a llkenesa of
the Virgin of Ouadalupe, the miracle
maid of Mexico, who revealed her
self to the Indian chief hunting on
the hill of Tntnltepee end bade him
seek and And her Image under the
maguey.
Tho climax of the celebration will
come at 11 o'clock tonight when. In
accordance with time-honored cus
tom, President Dias will appear on
'the central balcony of the palace to
ring the Independence bell and to re
peat the "grlto” (shout), which was
first given by the martyred aoldler-
pre/rtrtcnt Hidalgo on the night of
September 15, 1810.
The first note from tho old Inde
pendence bell which Hidalgo rang
at the like hour Just one hundred
years ago will be the signal for hus-
zas from every throat. The great
electric flag on the lofty dome of the
cathedral near by will burst into
light and wave Its luminous greet
ing to the throng below. A trained
choir of a hundred voices will sing
the centennial hymn and thousands
of lights will blase forth In every
nook and corner of the federal dis
trict.

Her Hustand Deserted Her.
Lilly Corhett, thirty years of age,
left Macon yesterday for Columbia,
H. C.. afer telling a pitiful story of
tramping from Alanta to Macon In
an effort to get home. 8he said that
she had been deserted by her bus-
band a week ago In Atlanta and
started hack to her old home, fall
ing to hear from her husband.
In Macon her feet showed painful
blisters and two of the patrolmen
there secured a purse and the Ladles
Aid Society saw her on her way

Albert Jackson, n negro, owes his
arrest on the charge of burglary to

counter and snored. It wav his snor
ing that awoke Jung I*e, the China
man In whose laundry he was found.
After his arrest It was found that
bn had been Implicated In the rob
bery of a clothing store.
