The Atlanta Federal Prison
is to Have Another Famous
Prisoner Soon.
Atlanta, Nor. 3—The Atlanta
federal penitentiary is going to have
another famous prisoner. G. E
Ellis, magazine publisher, and fi
leading spirit in the notorious Kor
nit Manufacturing Company, ol
Brooklyn, has just been brought here
to serve a three-year sentence. El
lis Was all right as long as he stuck
to publishing magazines, and some
of his periodicals had considerable
vogue, but ho couldn't make money
fast enough *knd went into a scheme
to make handles for hair brushes
out of cow's hoofs, or something
equally ridiculous. People from all
parts of the country took stock tn
the Kornit Company, and hundreds
of thousands of dollars were made.
Then the federal mall Inspectors got
wise and soaked Ellis for using the
mails to defraud.
No Levying of Assessments
George S. Dounell, secretary of
the United States Civil Service Com
mission in Atlanta, has Just receiv
ed instructions from Acting Presi
dent William Washburn, ordering
that political activity among civil
service employees, especially the
levying of assessments, will not be
tolerated. This prohibition effects
all civil service employees, no mat
ter where stationed or how employ*
ed. \ •

Such Is the statement of J. V.
Crawley, of Atlanta, whose wife,
Mrs. Georgia Crawley, is charged
with Having attempted to murdef
him and a whole family of five chil
dren by putting carbolic acid In the
drinking water.
And because Crawley Is unwilling
to .prosecute In the criminal court It
la probable that the alleged erlme
will go unpunished. ^
The attempt to poison the whole
family, according to Crawley, who
has filed suit for total divorce,, oc
curred somo time ago. Crawley was
a widower, with five enttdirn when
he fell In love with the present Mrs.
Crawley, an attractive young wo
man. and got her to marry him.
Their life waB happy, Crawley
says, until the stepmother began to

attempting to commit a murder.
Brown is the man who It Is al
leged conspired with a negro voo
doo doctor to kill his wlfo and when
that plan failed entered Into a con
spiracy with another negro to shoot
her with his rovolvor. Mrs. Brown
wns apprised of the plot and kept a
close watch on her husband. Tho
authorities were also notified and
they had Brown arrested after they
had seen hint hand tho negro a re
volver.
