Engineer Long was in charge of
the train which was making a pret
ty fast clip down the sharp grade
end around the curve toward Tifton,
The mules belonged to the Tift coun

loose during the night and strayed
off. Engineer Long did not see
them until It was too late to stop
his engine.
Had it not been for the enormous
weight of the engine the nr-lies
would have probably thrown It o. of

made no perteptlble impression,
When the. engine reached this city
It was covered with blood, showing
that the live stock were ground to
pieces In the terrific impact of the
flying train.
At the present price of mules the
accident means a loss of probably a
thousand dollars to Tift county, as
it is almost Impossible to buy good
mules for less than 1200, to $250
each.

More Good Corn.
The Times to!d yesterday about the
fine corn crop which Mr. T. M. Ray
has a mile and a half west of Valdosta
His neighbor Mr. Frank Roberts says
that it fills him with gladness to see
his old school mates, Tom Ray and
Rube Hagan, leading the county on
corn, for Mr. Roberts says that Rube
Hagan has a patch of corn which will
compare very favorably with Mr.
Ray’s.
Mr. C. W. Rennett, who resides a
mile or two above town also has a

over the county to see. It is planted
