Rev. Norman Plass to Face
U. S. Court for Using the
Mails to Defraud.

ment Company, upon the charge of
using the mails in a scheme of
defraud. United States District At

charge of the prosecution in person,
and the defendants will be represent
ed by the Hon. Samuel J. Elder as
senior counsel, John P. Feeney and
Francis M. Carroll.
The Redeemable Investment
Company, .which is said to have been
“get-rich-quick” concern with

In the literature which the company
sent out liberally throughout the

trolled as a holding cpmpany, min
ing, farm and timber properties in
the Northwest of the United States
and In British Columbia.
After the federal authorltes had
received several complaints from
alleged victims of the company, an
investigation wag made on October
13, 1910. Federal offlcialg made a
raid upon the elegantly furnished
offices of the concern, confiscated
the books and papers of the com
pany and arrested Chas. H. Brooks,
treasurer and manager. At that

A Former Policeman Killed at a
Lumiter Camp by a Negro.
Jackson, Miss., May 27.—Dan
Shannon, a former policeman, was
killed in a pistol duel with Joe
Phelps, a negro, at the Merrill Lum
ber plant late last, night. Phelps
was fatally hurt and died later.
