Columbus, Ga., June 29.—The
Georgia . and Alamaba Industrial

man colony on the land.

als for building a sewerage system.
Contract for the erection of a high
school building was awarded at
Wedowee, Ala. Toccoa, Ga., award

ty, Alabama, will probably vote on
the Issuance of $200,000 of road
bonds. The grand Jury of Crisp
county, Georgia, recommended a

Russellville, Alabama, awarded con

light and waterworks systems. Hart-
-selle, Ala., Is to sell bonds and In

Macon, Ga. Gainesville, Ga„ re
ports a $10,000 wagon factory.

majesties have given their personal
attention to the arrangements for
the huge gathering, which promises
to be the largest piMy of children
ever assembled at one time and place.
The co-operation of the various
railway companies will enab'le the
children to make the lourney to the
Crystal Palace from any part of Lon
don with no change of trains. The
children will assemble at flfty-slx dif
ferent Btatlons, and altogether one
hundred special trains, each carrying
about one thousand children, will be
used. A representative of the Lon
don Education Authority and a skill
ed nurse will travel with every train,
The Festival of Empire manage
ment will turn the Crystal Palace
and the grounds, over to the King’s
guests, and the general public will
be excluded for the entire day. Re
freshments will he provided free of
charge to the children and the teach
ers who accompany them, and all the
attractions of the great exhibition
will be open witnout cost. The King
and Queen are expected to attend the
fete during the afternoon.

While Keeper Was Away
Thieves Robbed Mansion of
-Many of its Ornaments
Memphis, June 29.—Robbers du
ring last night stripped the famous
old mansion of Jefferson Davis, pres
ident of the Confederacy;' of lead
piping, brass and beautiful old chan
deliers.
The house was kept up by the
Confederate Dames and the keeper
away when the theft occurred.
COMPULSORY EDUCATION BILL.

chosen to prepare the program.

the house of representatives, where

augural address. The oath will be

place today and was witnessed by
hundreds of thousands of spectators.
This was the visit of the King and
Queen to the city of London and their
official reception by the lord mayor
at the Guildhall, following the at
tendance of their majesties on the
special service of thanksgiving held
In St. Paul'* Cathedral.
\ The visit to tho city, which was In
pursuance of a custom that has st
eaded the coronation ot every Brit-'
sovereign for ages, was accompa-
|ed by much picturesque and quaint
ceremony. In duty bound, the rdyal
procession halted at Temple Bar,
which marke the city boundary,
while the King awaited the necee-
sary permission to enter the city.

state, preceded the royal procession
to tho Guildhall, where formal greet
ings and congratulations were ex
