Broughton’* new Tabernacle In that
city.
The building la to be extended

the building and the addition will
cost about ten thousand dollars. This,
however. Is s mere estimate. The
members of the church would not ibe
autlaflod with anything but the best
of workmanship and tba official
board contemplates having the very
boat work done on the building.
For a long time the church baa
been very crowded, especially on ex-
occaalona, while the Sunday
school baa been so crowded as
mnke It almost Impossible for the
teachers and pupils to hear what waa

to the crowded condition is said to
bate been a great handicap to the

The watermelon market, accord
ing to reports, has about collapsed,
and the watermelon growers are
Deling blue over tbe situation
Old men In the business do not
believe that then# conditions will laat
very long, but they believe that prices
will go up again and that growers
will be getting good prices for tbelr
melons within tbe next week or two.
It la said that tbe very large ship
ments of watermelons which are
being hurried to the market for tho
Fourth of July trade are causing the
slump In prices. For the past day or
twr tbe shipments have been very
large and tbe side tracks are filled
with cars to be loaded today and to
morrow.
The Valdosta, Moultrie and West-
eru road hauled 7S cars of melons to
Valdosta last week and It' brought
20 cars last night The XQSd ex
pects to haul a great many more mel
ons before tbe season ends. The
estimate la that there will be 250 to
500 car loads shipped from the ter
ritory between here and Moultrie.
This Is all new territory and water
melons have never been planted on
much of the ground before. The re
sult la that the melons have been
very fine. There have been few
watermelons raised around Valdosta,
hot the shipments from the territory
weal of here have been enormous.
It la said that.prices yesterday morn
ing were about 275 a car, and that
by night they had dropped to about
740 a car. The solicitors for the va
rious railroads are thicker than June
bugs and all of them are trying to
get business for the various roads.
Many commission houses also have
agents In the. fields soliciting ship
ments of melons find can^AjgvAs*.
It fa not generally known, but It
Is f fact none the leas, that the
Northern trade wants round melons,
and that Kolb Gems are a great fa
vorite In tbe North and Eaat on ac
count of the ehape. In the West the
long melons are preferable, the
Western people giving preference to
the flavor of the melons, rather than
their appearance.
The cantaloupe market has also
been on the blink, and It Is very
probable, that most pf the shipments
of cantaloupes have been made. It
Is not believed any more will be load
ed this season.
