St. Jean Baptists In East Seventy-
sixth street today, and kissed the
reliquary containing one of ths
bones from the wrist of the Mother
of Virgin. It was the close of ths
annual novena of Ste. Anne, the
period during which the faithful
look for many miracles to ha per
formed.
For nine days the little church

This section of |the United States
Revised Statutes has been repealed,
but re-enacted by section 113 of the
Criminal Code of the United States,
which 1b nearly the same, an ex
cerpt of which Is as follows:
"Sec. 113. Whoever, being elect
ed or appointed a senator, member
of or delegate to congress, as a res
ident commissioner, shall, after his
election or appointment and either
before or after he has qualified, and
during his continuance In office, or
being the head of a department, or
■*4her officer or clerk In the employ
of the United States, shall, directly
or indirectly, receive, or agree to
receive, any compensation whatever
for any service rendered or to be
rendered ,to any person, either by

any proceeding, contract, claim, con

Atlanta, July 26.—Although no
statement has been authorised on
the subject. It Is believed that Gov.
Hoke Smith as United States sena
tor-elect, Will follow tbe example of
Senator David B. Hill, of New
York, and will decline to accept the
salary for United States senator for
the time prior to the date on which
he actually enters upon the duties
of the offlee.
