FIFTY FIVE REGISTERED PACK*
AGES DISAPPEARED WITH
THE ROBBERS, BUT AMOUNT
STOLEN IS NOT KNOWN.
Savannah, Ga„ Den. 13.—The offi
cials ot the Atlantic Coast Line
Railway are of the opinion that the
men who held up train No. 80 of
that system on Tuesday morning
fcsslonal - train robfiera;
that they know the "lay of
and" too well not to hay#
studied the situation carefully. Two
l' men answering the description of
those vjtho did tho work have boon
riding frequently between Hardee-
vlllo, whore the hold up occurred,
and Savannah, It la stated. That tho
robbery was well planned la certain.
' Just how profitable It was Is not
’khown and perhaps never will be.
The government reporta that flfty-
flvo registered packages disappeared
- when the men did, but what they
contained la not known. The detec
tives ot the system are still working
on the case and the Coast Line has
offered a reward ef (800 for the ar
rest with' proof to convict- the
robbers. It la-a good thing for old
Bill Minor that he la now safe In
the Georgia pen, or he would prob-
. ' ably get the credit for thla Job,
The fact that the ezpreea was car
ried on the second section of No.
80 probably made the robbers’ haul
lighter than It would have'been, as
they would probably have tackled
that too,’ had the express car been on
the train. During the heavy rush
season the express Is' carried on the
l second section ot the train.
_ The only arrest In connection with
& the case yesterday was a sort of
■ near-arrest'. A young' man whs
W talked a good deal about the rob-
T bery while waiting for a train at the
r Union Station attracted the atten
tlr.n of the policeman on duty there
. and he sent him Ilf as a auspicious
| character. He was-released shortly
I after reaching the barracks and
when he proved that he not only
waa not a robber, but was well
known to many Savannahlana.
