Chief Dampier la confident that
tbe dog was suffering from dydro-
phobla and everybody who eaw tbe
animal reached the same ooncluelon.
Early this morning the dog was
rounded by the postofflce fighting
other dogs and snapping at tbe
i things that happened to get In Its
‘ way. It struck a trot down through
tbe business section of the town and
.had three or four "fights before It
bad gotten more than a block. It
struck a trot down towards the
Georgia Southern road and at the
intersection of Crane avenue and
Patterson street It ran across
womsn who was leading a snaggy
looking white dog behind her. The
mad dog pounced upon the little one
about Ilka a cat would on a rat
and after spourlng up part of the
street with It, started on In Its trot
towards the Georgia Southern depot.
The animal went nearly to Dukes
Day and cut across to another part
of town and teen went back In the
northern section. The police offi
cers were telephoned about the dog
and Chief Dampier started out to
try and kill It. He followed It
some distance before be was able
to get a shot at It. He killed
at the first shot.
Tbe animal was a small white
and brown spotted pointer and was
a stranger in this city.
It was reported tbls afternoon
that the dog bit Miss Alice Davis on
tbe foot on Pear street, but the
dog's teeth did not penetrate the
flesh, though they cut a hole In her
shoe. Many other dogs arJund
town were bitten and there was
much excitement In the sections
visited by the dog.

Wilmington, Del., Jen. 1.—The
suit of John Bancroft, 2nd son of
John Bancroft, wealthy aeeretary of
the Joseph Bancroft and Bona Com
pany, textile manufacturers, of Wil
mington, tor a divorce from hie wife
Madeleine du Font Bancroft, and
the counter suit of the wife for di
vorce will come up for trial In the
superior court here this month.
When the young husband filed
suit against him wife last summer
It created the greatest stir that has
occurred tn Delaware In years.
Mrs. Bancroft, who la only twenty-
three years old, Is a members of the
du Pont family, the millionaire
powder manufacturers.
In bis suit the husband named
Max Helbler, of Munich, a friend of
the couple, aa corespondent. He call
ed the Infant son of his wife, born
last April, Max Helbler, Jr. He also
made the child, which waa hern
here, a cofendant with the mother.
He denied the paternity of the in
fant
Subsequently the wife began
counter suit for divorce on the same
general grounds. She also alleges ex
treme cruelty. The city of Munich
figures in the action for the reason
that the couple lived there for
three years, following their elope
ment from Wilmington In 1907.
They were married at Washington,
D. C., the bridegroom not being
quite of age. He waa a student at
Princeton. The youthful . couple
were sent abroad In. order'that the
husband could complete bis studies
at Heidelberg Unlveralty.

ing that he bad treated Charles W.
Morae with unnecessary severity
while at the federal prison, Warden
William H. Moyer has decided to
day to Invite leading newspaper men
of t his city to the prison, In a body,
to Inspect the original records In
the Morae case.
Warden Moyer says that the high
ly colored stories, manufactured
by friends of Morse and tent out
with the object of exciting pity, so
far overshot their mark that thay
failed in their attempt.
“If the truth and the whole truth
hurts Morse now, ho can have only
hi* friend* to blame,” ear* Mr.
Moyer.
Among the sensational, stories

to be given free. The season will

nard Shaw, have been selected for
