According to the figures which
hare just been gotten together In
Valdosta, this cltr paid last rear to
the railroads doing business here
about 11,160.000. This la the high-
water mark for the railroads at this
point, and railroad officials who
know what the other towns are do
ing declare that this puts Valdosta
head and shoulders shore any other
town on anp of tha roads, with the
poeslble exception of the terminal
points. The Atlantic Cosat Line has
no town except at Its terminals that
compare* in business with Valdosta,

made In Tampa to the Dally Times
this week. The distance from boro
to Tampa Is now SIT miles, ths new
route will be 3$ 8 mlleo, a earing of
184 mile*. The new route plan
ned Is as follows: Tampa to Dun-
nellon, 112 miles; Dunnellon to
Oldtown, 42 miles. Oldtown to Per
ry, 62 miles; Perry to Montlcello,
33 mites; Montlcello to Thomas-
rllte, 24 miles. This la the route
which will be built

From the two latter points In Geor
gia thers will be access by various
routes to the west.
Tho connecting links of railway
to be built are: Dunnellon to Old
town on the Suwannee river, forty-
two miles; Perry to Montlcello,
tblrty-tbree miles. These two con-
nnctlng links will give ■ routs run
ning In almost direct line north
westwardly from Lakeland, tha
only crook In the road tostng tha
line running eastward from Tampa
to Lakeland.
An Authoritative Statement.

tendent of the third division of th*
Atlantic Coast Line, with headquar
ters at Jacksonville, Is authority for
the statement that the Coast Line
la about to give Tampa that long
desired and much hoped for direct

Waycrosa Committee.
WarcrosB, Oa.. Jan. 16.—Recom
mending to the cltr council that the
present telephone franchise of the
city, held by tbe Southern Bell
Telephone and Telegraph Company,
be canceled, the public *ervlce cor
poration committee of the board of
trade today made public the result
of Its Investigations. The committee
has received complaints from a num
ber of telephone patrons, having
requested these complaints so
to find out what the cause,
If any, the telephone patront bad for
kicking.
The committee recommends to
the telephone company that sufficient
new equipment be added to th*
Waycrosa plant to care for the
growing buslneaa and that a force
of operators large enough to look
after the call* In the exchange be
employed. That la, If the company
makes no effort to Improve the sit
uation of today, to committee thinks
the council will be justified In can
celing the franchise.
No complaint haa been made
