BIG OFFICIALS
IN VALDOSTA ON
SPECIAL TRAIN
G. and F. Men are Here
on Tour of Inspection
I'REIDKXT WILLIAMS AND PAR
TY REACHED THE CITY THIS
AFTERNOON FROM MADISON
ON THE WAY NORTH.
nun, VALDOSTA, GA*« SATURDAY . JANUARY 27, lOtf.
A special train over the Georgia
and Florida railroad reached Val
dosta this afternoon conveying Pres
ident John Skelton Williams, vice-
president E. L. Remiss, General Man
ager Turner and other prominent
officials of the line.
The party went from Jacksonville
to Madison, Fla., over the Sea Board
Air Line railroad and left Madison,
Fla., this morning at eleven o’clock
to come to Valdosta and make a
trip over the road’s property for the
purpose of inspecting It.
The special train reached Valdos
ta about nine o’clock this afternoon
and remained here for two or three
hours and then pulled out on the
trip to Augusta. 'V
It is Mr. Williams’ annual trip
over the road. He Is accompanied
by the officials of the line and a
number of prominent capitalists who
are financially interested in the de
development of the road.
It Is understood that the members
of the party are very muchpleased
with the physical condition of the
Toed and were especially pleasea
at the splendid terminal facilities
which the road has acquired in this
city.
The Georgia and Florida suffer
ed considerably from the unusually
hard rain {during the past few
T X0ftnths and the damage wbid^ was
done involvd^Wtgreat .deal^^f
peftrfe. Its, experience was the ’com*
moju y\K of all railroads and the
"road has profited by it. The weak
places have been made strong end
1t is very probable that the track
will stand all of the bad weather
that comes upon It hereafter.
The business of the road during
th© past year is said to have shown
remarkable gains and the officials
confidently believe that the territory
through which it passes will make
It the best paying piece of railroad
property in the South when that
territory is fully developed. The
possibilities are simply wonderful.

Thedford’s
Savannah, Ga., Jan. 23.—That it
la cruel treatment for a husband to
cut tho throat of hia wife and la
sufficient cause for a total divorce,
according to the decision of the
court of Chatham county in the case
t>f Mrs. Maude Conoway against
her husband Rufua. Tble was only
one of sixteen divorces granted in
e superior court in one day.
In Conoway ault there waa con
siderable argument between the
court and counsel as to what con
stituted a threat of cruelty. Ac
cording to the testimony Conoway
at one time threatened to cut his
wife’s throat. It was argued that
this constituted cruel treatment, and
the court agreed. ,
It waa a steady grind, almost at
rapid as at Reno, It seemed. The
parties libellant generally got what
they wanted,—-a complete separa
tion with the annulment of their
marital relation. There was not a
single verdict ’ for the defense In
the sixteen cases on the docket. In
nearly all of the cases cruel treat
ment waa the ground upon which
the divorce was aaked.
