Politics In Lowndes county have taken on a good deal more life dur ing the paat few dayB, due very largely to the fact that the retire ment of Congressman Brantley from th e congressional race opens a way for moro candidates for that place. It seems to he tery certain that Valdosta will have one or two can didates in the race for congress, The friends of Col. J. R. Walker urging him to run and the friends of Judge Oscar Smith are also urging him Into tho race. Col Walker formerly lived In the east ern part of the district and has many friends thoro who are stand ing solidly behind him. Judge Smith has lived lu the northern-part of the district and has revived many lottera and other messages from his friends up that way asking him to get Into the race. Judge I’urker. of the Waycross circuit, wan in Valdosta yesterday and It Is said that he notlflcd his friends here that he oxpecta to make a hot light for every Inch of ground In the district. Ho Is now In Echols county where he Is looking after his fences. He states that ho expects to light for Brooks county, and Clinch county, though h» concedes Lown- dos county to the Valdosta candi date. Col. It was said yesterday that many Mr. B. Mr. Taft lost Colorado formation regarding this work, same nnd Nebraska In 1908, Atlanta, March 13.—Mrs. OpTe Grace Is complaining bitterly that Atlanta lawyers and the general public are trying her case on the street corners and in newspaper col umns, and are condemning her out of court. As a matter of fact, every news paper In Atlanta has printed not only facts and speculations on the case, but elaborate arguments, often quoted from attorneys, designed to prove that she Is either guilty or in nocent as the case may be. The detectives say they know sho is guilty, but there Is nothing but ciicumstantlal evidence to base the charge on. Attorney Reuben Ar nold haa made the positive state ment that If Grace dies he will see Mrs. Grace convicted. Attorneys Moore & Branch, rep resenting Mrs. Grace, and o 4 lv-rs who sympathize with her, are quo ted In equally elaborate arguments to prove that she Is innocent. Women discuss It at their after noon teas. Newsboys fight about it In the street. If she ever does come to trial, how on earth the judge will be abl* to find a Jury In Atlanta of twelvo men who have not formed any defi nite previous opinion on the “guilt or Innooence of the prisoner at the bar,” Is a thing that will prove most difficult. It would be, perhaps, unfair to 6ay that the whole Atlanta public Is prejudiced one way or the other, but it la certainly true that practi cally the whole public has formed Its opinion one way or the other, other crime that ever happened Relief from Rheumatism Try Sloan’s Liniment for your rheu matism— don’t rub — just lay it‘©n lightly.
