O N the first day of this mouth there took
place a tremendous stornr at Thomastou,
which is found to have extended wide and far,
and to have done much damage—f iring to which
the itinerant agents employed to sell tickets could
not arrive in time, aud the drawing of the Uuiou
Hotel Property Lottery could not take place on
the 2d inst. t As there is considerable stock yet
to dispose of, the Proprietor thinks it best to have
the drawing when the stock is sold, or most cer
tainly the first day of January next: this will
give him time to sell the balance of the tiekets.
Messrs. Saltinafsh & Overton start a fine Post
Coach Union Line, to leave Macon aud Colum
bus. bh the first Monday in Aptil next, and meet
at the Union Hotel iu Thoinastbu three times a
week. This splendid Line must raise the stocks
and be a great iuducement for purchasers who
ever indulge in Lotteries.

fore done, vindicate personal aud political
liberty, so far as is compatible with private liap-
piuess and public safety. It will therefore cling
to the opinions of the Fathers df the Revolution,
as comprised in the Declaration of Independence
and the Constitution of theUuitcd States; aud it
hulds it to lie a truth almost intuitive, that on the
most vigilant aud unremitting restriction of the
General and State branches of our Government to
their respective provinces, depends thc benign op
erations ofthoso opinions, the virtue of the man,
the franchise of tbe citizen, aud the internal peace
and external safety of the couiitry.
It Steers equally far from the new invented the
ory oftlienuilifiers; as it does from the old Fed
eral doctrine of the Cousolidationists—conceiving
that the true principle ofour institutions lies equal
ly between the two extremes. Aud while it sup
ports the Administration iu all its judicious mea
sures, it claims thc right to censure it whenever
censure is deserved.
