VIRGINIA ELECTIONS.
The elections in Virginia are held during the
court days of this month, (which happen on
different days in different counties,) aud Jtavt}
taken place already in several counties. We

yesterday, titat the friends of the Administration
have succeeded with their candidates in Sussex
and Nottaway. The last named county.it w ill
be remembered, was carried by the Opposition
at the Inst election by a meagre majority, aud
its subsequent instructions shamefully disregard
ed. We hail the late result as a happy omen.
The people of Virginia, we confidently trust
will mark the present clectiou by a signal 'vin
dication of the right of, instruction, and hand
down au example of the triumph of principle
which centuries will not obliterate.—Globe.

Tho late severe cold aud wet weather has
been most destructive to the slock in the lower
counties. We learn that one owner found eighty
grown cattle dead in two days, aud auothcr found

you object to, the allusious were understood,their
application we believe you made, and felt iho
force, yet would not fairly meet it, but resorted
to various expedients to resist aud destroy tlitir

It would not be an unfair inference, though I
will not say you have been industriously strewing
your crumbs here and. there, and telling a pathet
ic tale in such a way ns to divert or buy up to si
lence u few weak men, aud neutralize some more
discerning oues, by holding out to suit the times,
a short live*! patronage aud advantage to them.
One word here, to the “ enlightened" coadjutor,
who deals in the truly sublime, awfully grand,
and classically chaste conceptions of mountain*
iu labor producing mice, self styled committee,
public meetings privately gotten up, and various
other absurd and ridiculous allusions as to motives
&*. All of which demonstrate impotence. The

certain commercial regulations, and methods to
prevent a continued dependence on those persons
whom they believed cherished opposiug interests

but exclusive bearing, the committee perform

But forsooth, a voluminous import and resolu
tions was anticipated by a Citizen, who it would
appeal prefers a large scale in most things, os fen-
sihly at lean, and has with true quixotic power
pr- strand all opposition. The brief report how
ever, though of the “rhapsodical order" seems to
h ve had point and power enough at least to se
verely gall the tender withers of a Citizen, grow
ing arrogant and insolent from prosperity, and
from the bitltert-i indulgence and stipiuentss to
