we have made arrangements that will enable us at all

built expressly for that busiuess. On our wharves
are large Storehouses, calculated for the storing of cot

CENTRAL RAIL R'lAD AND BANIvIN^ COM-
* PA NY OF GEORGIA.
Savakrah, 1‘Jth April, 1837.
S*^—In conformity to law, I transmit n statement of
the business of this imiitulion for the last six months,
and ito condition on the 3d hist, showing that that part
of iu capital appropriated to Uan.king, hits been used
' with saii’ty to die institution, and with profit to the
stockholders. '
Since the last rdport, a anrvtjr of the road has been
made, which lias resnlteR in a conviction that the con
nection between this City and Macon can bo made on a
grade deviating from a jierlccl level but little, in few
mstouces exceeding ten feet to the mile, and, in none
exceeding twenty-one feet to. the mile. A part of the
road has been built and track kiid ready for cars; afnr-
are tker portion is graded and re^dy tor tlic snpcrstruc-
turc, and sevi ral parties of Engineers arc 110W in the
field, locating the road west of the Ogeechce for con
tracts. The high'price of labor during the p«st,sea-
son, and the demand for all kind* of provisions, crea
ted by the Seminole war in our neighborhood, and o-
ther causes, lias caused the expenditures nu ifie rrtad,
so far, to be far heavier than were anticipated, or than
will be attendant on further operations.
Except that part under contract, but little progress
will be made in the work until the fall, when it is in
tended that active operations shall lie resumed; and,
it is hoped that in a twelvemonth from this time, at
least a third of the road will have been finished.
I have the honor to be, very respectfully,
Your excellency’s obedient servant,
W. W. GORDON, President.
IBs Ex. Wm- Schley, Governor, *c.
