Messrs. A. H. Bands Sc Co.—Sirs:' Most gratefully do
I embrace this opportunity for staling lo you the great relief
I obtained from tne use of your Barsaparilla. I shall also
fie happy, through yon. to publish to all who are afflicted,
as I lately was, tbe account of my unexpected, and even for
a long time despaired of cure. Mine is a painful story, and
Irving and sickening as is tbe narrative or it. for the sake of
many who may be so surely relieved, I will briefly yet ac
curately state it.
N'ueteen yearsago last April, a fit of sickness left me with
an Erysipelas eruption. Dropsical collections immediately
look place over the entire suifaceof my body, causing such
n enlargement that it was necessary to add a yard to mv
iresses around the waist. Next followed upon my limbs
ulcers painful beyond description. For years, both in sum
mer and winter, the only mitigation of my sufferings was
found in pouring upon those parts cold water. From my
limbs tbepain extended over my whole body—there wes
literally forme no rest, by day or by night. Upon lying
down, these pains would shoot through my system and com-
pel mebi arise, and for hours together, walk the house, so
that I was almost entirely deprived of sleep. During this
time the Erysipelas continued active, and tlie ulcers enlar
ged, and so deeply have these eaten, that for two and a half
yearsthey have been subject to bleeding. During these al
most twenty years I have consulted many physicians. These
have called my disease—as it was attended with an obstinate
cough and a neady and active pain in my tide—a dropsical
consumption; snd'though they liave been skilful praciiiion-
mly able to afford my case a partial and tern
porary relief. I had many other difficulties too complica
ted to describe. I have also used many of the medicines
that have been recommended aa infallible cures for ibis dis
ease, yet these all failed, and I was most emphatically
growing worse. In ibis critical condition, given up by friends
and expecting for myself relief only in death, I was by the
kind interposition of Providence, furnished with your,'to
me, invaluable Sarsaparilla. A single bottle gave me an
assurance of health, which for twenty years I had not once
felt. Upon taking the second my enlargement diminished,
and in twelve days from the £tu of October, when I com-
o pet
ed from all those exrruciating and iinnlleviated pains that
bad afflicted my days, as well as robbed me of my night’s
-pose. The ulcers upon tny limbs are healed, the Erysi
pelas cured, d: my size reduced nearly to my former meas
ure.
Thus much do I feel it a privilege to testify to the efficacy
of your health-restoring Sarsnpirilla. A thousand thanks,
airs, from one wbo^e comfort and whose hope of future
health are due under God, to your instrumentality. And
may the same Providence that directed me to your aid,
make the happy ar.d honored instruments of blessing sthers,
as diseased nnd despairing as your much relieved and very
grateful friend. * ASENATH M. PHILLIPS.

The Jerusalem Artichoke
T HE cultivation of this root is spreading rapidly in Ten.
l essee and the Cherokee country in Georgia; and iti,
found, upon experiment, to produce more nutritive matter
per acre, for fattening hogs, than any Vegetable whaie, (r .
It is planted and cultivated like corn; delights in a loose
soil, and will produce from four to eight hundred bail*!,
per acre—as an examination of our Farms, at this time, to
on the Oustanaulee and Etowah, will fully prove. Oneicre
will keep in good condition, fifteen head of hngs (if they
are well supplied with ashes) from the 1st of October to In
April. Five boshels (with one large, or two small tooti to
a hill) will plant one acie—and two plcughings and hreirri
will be sufficient. They can he had at our plantstioni.bj
the load, at 75 rents per bushel; and at all other placet
^vhere required, at the same price, adding the cost of iruv
portstion.
CCF March and April are the usual months for planting,

There is no exaggeration in the account you give of it,ac
