I have set out with tbe determination to sen wbat
can be done on 95 acres of high dry* upland, by
ditching, under-draining, thorough subsoiling. and
•the application of fifteen dollars worth of Mspes
Super-Phosphate of Lime to the acre. I am ful
ly satisfied from an experiment, made by me (a* a
bove) this year, that 1 can raise a bag of cotton or
thirty bushels of corn per acre Jhe first year, and
bring eve ry acre in good heart "Truly yunrs, ‘'D."
New York, Nov. 19, 1859.
Professor JAKES J. MAPES,
Dear 8ir I have no hesitation in sayjng, that I
have used your Super- Phosphate ol Lime since 1852;
in that year, using 7j tons; each year since. 1 have
use il in varying quantities. Its average effect has
been all you promised. 1 rely on it in all cases to
putin with the seed, to give an early and healthful
growth to tbe plant. I have invariably found tbe
article of good quality, and, If anything, better, in
183(1 than in 1852. Respectfully, yours.
HENRY C. VAIL.
From Judge E. A. Nttbil:
Macon, Georgia, Nor. 7ili, 1859.
Sometime ago I used a ton of Prof. Mapes' Phos
phate of Lime as a fertilizer for cotton. The sum-
mer was exceedingly dry, and therefore unfavora
ble ton fair experiment. The result, however, was
Aa ioerMUMd product of 200 pound* to the acre,
using the ton upon 19 acres. Prof. Mapes' recent
improvements tn this article, from wbat I learn of
it. 1 bavo no doubt have made it more desirable as
a fertiliser than wah the original article, and I can
see that the uso of it must be very profitable.

Dear 8ir— I have very great pleasure in'writing
yon lonehing the effecU ol your Super-Phosphate
of Lime on our cotton crop. Having tested it against
four other preparations, I find the appearance of the
phut la moat hopeiul and promising, aa regard* »
large and remunerating yield. 1 feel certain your
manure will give trom oue hundred to 6ae hundred
and thirty pounds of Cotton more than any other
preparation per aero. . .
Ir i# a remarkable fact that no Rost i* seen in the
plant where vonr manure ha* been used, while all
other* show Rust, more or lea*, kud «hi» is especial-
ly the case where Guano has been used.
Aud las*, though uot least, a*regard# the Planter a
interest, I feel Certain that cotton from Suptr-Pboa-
nhate will weigh much heavier than from any oth
er preparation, in tni* particular. I believe 1W
pbatw aro destined to wotk the greatest possible
revolution in the cotton-groifing States to the
South. • , '
The plant* look most vigorous and lnxunou*. some
being six foet high, and holding from eighty to one
