THE GEORGIA WEEKLY TELEGRAPH.
FTIIElta
I T>- DTJTXN;
irr ois'l iu nuy i:. jackson, of oionflu ! MERCHANT TAILOR,
As dlo the ambers on the hearth,
And o’er the floor the shadow* fall.
And creel* the chirping cricket forth.
And tick* the death watch in the wall,
1 see a form in yonder chair
That prow* beneath tho waning light;
There are the wan sad features—there
The pallid brow and locks of white.
DEALER IN
My Father! when they laid thee down.
And heaped the clay upon thy-bnmst,
And Jett thee keeping all alone.
Upon the narrow conch of rest,
I know not why I could not weep—
The soothing drops refused to roll,
And oh! that grief i* wild and deep
at
Which settles tearless on the eonl.
But when I saw thy vacant chair,
Thy idle hat upon the wall,
Thy books—the penciled passage where
Thine eyo had roated laat of all—
The tree beneath whose friendly shade
Thy trembling iect had wandered forth—
The very prints those teet bad mado
When last they feebly trod the earth—
Cloths, CassiiutTfs, Votings, and
Gen \s Furnishing Goods,
MULBERRY ST., (OPPOSITE LANIER HOUSE)
MACON, GA.,
nst received his Spring Stock of
And thought, while countless ages fled,
The vacant seat would vacant stand—
Unworn thy hat—thy book unread—
Effaced the footsteps from the sand—
And widowed in this cheerless world
Tho heart that gave its Hie to thee—
Torn like the vine whose tendrils curled
Moredosely round tho falling 1
Them Father! for her sake and thee,
Guthod madly forth the scalding tears;
And ott, and long, and bitterly
Those tears have gnshed in latter years;
For as the world grows cold around.
And tblrgs take on their real bne,
’Tis said to team float love is found
Alone, above tbe stars with you!
An Important Decision.—Judge Mason,
in tho Supreme Court of New York has given
an important decision. A guest at the La
farge House was robbed ot a watch, his rings
ana scarf pin, together with two hundred
dollars in money; andonsueing, the proprie
tor set up in defense that tho rule of the
house—under the statute of tho State—re
quired valuables to bo deposited in the safe
of the office. The Judge, however, charged
that this did not apply to a watch, or such
jewelry as a person usually carried about his
person, nor to such amounts of money ns
wero usually carried in the pockets of travel
ers to supply ordinary necessities. Thojury
brought in a verdict giving the. plaintiff five
hundred and twenty-five dollars.
A Hard Set I—A night or two since we
passed a group of negroes busily engaged in
the discussion ot tho Chimborazo cmuctc,
and expressing their indignation in no very
choice terms against the soldiera and the po
lice, tbe latter coming in for a doable share
of the abuse. One of the group was attired
in a rusty Federal uniform, the others in citi
zens’ garb, and from the thick lips of one of
the latter broke—“Well, we kin fito um.”
Blue-jacket (loquitur)—No, we can’t. Til
tel! ycu dese d—d rebels is the wossest fitin
men in do wurl. Ibc dun bin in dc army and
tried cm; I is, and I don’t want nnffin to do
wid em.
And the two passed on.—[Richmond En
