THE PRO BL ElW
The problem is to count the'circles. Every circle
is complete and intersects or touches one or more
other circles. There are no parts of circles or shams
or deceptions of any sort in the puzzle. In the
event that no one counts the exact number the
prizes will be awarded for the nearest correct solu
tions. Accuracy and patience are the main requi
sites for arriving at the correct, or nearest correct,
count. Those who display these qualifications to
he best advantage will solve the puzzle best.

VOUR OPPORTUNITY
This contest is offered as a means of entertaining our
readers, and is open to any man, woman, boy or girl
within the territory designated. No extra charge is
made for participation, other than the regular subscrip
tion price. The plan is the fairest that can be adopted.
Everyone sending in a payment to apply on subscription,
according to the schedule published elsewhere, becomes
a contestant, and the best part of it is, that the compe
tition which brings such rich reward is only a good use
of spare moments, and merely a test of mathematical
skill and accuracy.
Can you count? Of course you can; but can you
count correctly? Try and see.

lina, Florida and Mississippi.
A payment on subscription to The Atlanta Journal of from $1.10 to $6.00 for the Daily and Sunday edi
tion, or from $1.00 to $6.00 for the Semi-Weekly edition of The Journal, entitles a contestant to submit a
solution of the puzzle. The amount of money paid will cover the subscription price for the paper, according
to the regular rate, whether for city delivery or by mail.
AS MASTS’ DHTERENT SOLUTIONS MAY BE SUBMITTED AS THE CONTESTANT DESIRES, UPON
SUBMITTING AN ADDITIONAL PAYMENT WITH EACH ONE, BUT NOT MORE THAN $6.00 CAN BE
PAID WITH ANY ONE SOLUTION.
It is not necessary to pay the same amount with each solution if more than one be submitted. As
the main prizes have an added value according- to what is paid in on subscription with the winning solu
tion, contestants should familiarize themselves with the dividend schedule before sending in their sub
scription and solution.
Remit by check, money order, registered letter or in one or two-cent stamps. Solutions unaccompanied
by cash subscriptions will not be registered. The contest is open to both old and new subscribers within
the territory designated.
Whatever is paid, whether on one or a number of solutions, will apply on a continuous subscription to
The Atlanta Journal.
DECIDING TIES
In case of a tie, a second puz zle will be presented. This
puzzle will be practicable and solvable. Only those tied will
•>e permitted to solve puzzle No. 2. No money will have to
accompany the .solution. The s second puzzle will be printed
but once, and those tied will have a week in which to solve
it. Mail subscribers at a dis:ance, if tied, will be alowed
a week from the time they receive the second puzzle, the
time to be determined by postmarks.
In case of another tie, a third puzzle, also perfectly solv
able, will be presented. It will be r.ubejct to the same con
ditions as the. second. The second ami third puzzles will
only be fused in case of a tie. Their purpose will be merely
to decide ties, so that in the event there is a tie, the prizes
will be awarded without having to divide them or without
resorting to chance.
However, only three puzzles will be presented, and in the
seemingly impossible event of still another tie, the prizes, or
their equivalent in cash, will be equally divided.
If there are no ties, there will be only one puzzle.
No prizes will be distribute ed until the contest is finally
decided.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Should there be any ties, a s many prizes will be reserved
as there are people tied before any prizes are awarded to
those ^sending less correct solutions. That is, if two people
tied on the absolutely correct answer, they would have to
count the second puzzle to de termine which was entitled to
the first prize and which to the second prize. Then the one
who sent the next best answer would be entitled to the third
This rule will apply generally.
While the winning of a prize does not depend upon the
t^ne solution was registered, the puzzle is more or
less elusive, and the best thi ng to do is to begin counting
at once. Send in your solution, and If you find later you
have made a mistake, send in another. There is no limit to
the number of different solutions, that may be registered.
All those entering the contest will, as condition and con
sideration, be required to abide by the ruling of the Con
test Manager. In the event of any question arising, the
Puzzle Manager, if he deems it wise, may appoint a com
mittee to assist him in deciding them, and those entering
the contest do so with the understanding that such decision
will be final.
