Mr. Marcel, located at 048 Broadway, Kansas

of barley malt, a penny’s worth of yeast, and
Snakes five gallons of whiskey at a total cost of
less than 50c: and then sells it at from four
to five dollars a gallon. He explains how the
whiskey barons make their millions and shows
who pays for their mansions and automobiles.
The book is a fascinating story of a great crime
Against the consumers of whiskey.

The Bartow County Fair
HE. Bartow County fair, now
in progress at Cartersville,'
Ga., is the first effort of this
association, and they certainly
have made k good start. They
have one of the neatest little fair
grounds in the south. It is
located right on the side of the
railroad, where the location it
self is a big advertisement for the
fair. The citizens of this com
munity certainly are progressive
and have made * step rorward
that should be done in every
town of anything near its size m
the state of Georgia. Bartow
county is one of the banner coun
ties of the state, especially when
it comes to agriculture. While
the display of agriculture was
very good indeed, it was nothing
like what it should have been in
a community like this. The
farmers as a rule say they are ail
too busy to make a display ot
this kind, but this should not be
an excuse. It is a duty they owe
. not only to themselves, hut their
county, to at lease spend one week displaying products of this section.
It Is true that the premiums offered by this fair for agricultural
products were small, but they would warrant going after, and aside
from the actual money value, it would lead to the sale of good seed or
the bringing before the public higher ideas that should be instilled in
every farmer in this country. The display of hogs, what there were,
was .unusually good, but not near enough of them. And no cattle at all
shown! This is a shame, w-hen this industry needs attention so badly.
The display of colts and horses was one of the best representatives
they had of their farm products, and a splendid lot of horses and colts
that were raised in Bartow county were exhibited on these fair grounds.
It was surprising to see the number of race horses competing for the
few dollars that were hung up in the races. This is one of the features
connected with sporting life that will never die, and it is surprising how
much enthusiasm and how much interest were shown in the splendid
races that were conducted every day on the splendid race course located
at the fair grounds. People who own race horses will go a long ways
for a small amount of money hung up in purses for races. It is sur
prising how much people think of this sport, and even though there be
a small amount of rrioney in it, people get pleasure out of this sport
that far more than compensates them for the expense attached to same,
and I suppose as long' as horses are in existence there will always be
more or less horse racing all over the country.
The poultry department was undoubtedly the best thing connected
with the fair, and a magnificent display of poultry was exhibited at this
show in a splendid building, with nice new coops, everything classified
and well arranged. Mr. Milam, who is at the head of this department,
and Mr. Gains, the superintendent, worked faithfully and had every
thing in shape and put on a poultry display that would have done credit
to any ppultry show. The White Orpington class was unusually large,
and one entire aisle occupied the display of these magnificent birds.
The Rhode Island Reds were brought out in large numbers, and the
display of Bit Games was about the best 1 have seen in many a day. It
is surprising how many good Pit Games were exhibited at this show.
White Wyandottes, Partridge Wyandottes, Silver Wyandottes, Black
and Buff Orpingtons, Brown and White Leghorns and several othar
varieties of foWJs and a large display of Indian Runner ducks and
turkeys made up the poultry show that the citizens of Bartow county
can well feel proud of. Several sales were made during this show, and
much enthusiasm in poultry worked up, and it is sure to do good for
years to come in this section, where so much interest is manifest. As
many people now remark, it Is not a question of cost or work attached
to keeping poultry, but simply to know that you can get eggs and fowls
when you want ‘them. The scarcity of these products is fbreing hun
dreds pt people to keep chickens who would not do so otherwise, and
the poultry display conducted in connection with this fair was a big
advertisement, and means much hereafter to this association, and it
will always be a leading feature connected with the fair.
Possibly the most valuable department on the grounds was the
ladies’ and children’s fancy handiwork, preserves, jellies and canned
goods. One could spend a day in this building and be highly enter
tained and educated.
Everyone seems to be enthused, and promises to leave no stone
unturned each year from now on to make the Bartow County fair one
of the leading fairs of the country. They have certainly made a good
start, arid, with the large attendance who patronize this exhibition the
people certainly nave reason to feel proud and congratulate themselves
on their first effprt. They realize how much it means to a town and
entire country, and everyone seems to be trying his utmost to make it
entertaining and’pleasant for all visitors and make them feel that they
are welcome, and' this goes a long ways towards having the visitors
speak a good word for Cartersville and want to go back. They have
started out right, and every year
from now on you can expect great
things from this fair.
Yours very truly,
(By W. H. White, Jr., of the White Provision

It’s about time you had some more of
my good whiskey in your home
Old Woodruff Bourbon $3
Old Woodruff is an old-fashioned Bourbon,
made the old Kentucky way. When I say it’s
good value at $3, it must be or I wouldn’t say it.
Lone Pine Corn d^MS 1 $3
Lone Pine is a fine corn whiskey with that
mellow “fruity” corn taste you look for in corn
whiskey. I say it is good value. It is distilled
in the old-fashioned way and is entirely differ
ent from ordinary corn whiskey.
Just to prove what a wonderful BIG FREE
malt whiskey I have, Pm going to OFFER
give one large bottle free with every order for 4
large bottles of Rose’s Medicinal Malt Whiskey at
$3.00, provided you use this coupon.
Or if you prefer, I will give one large bottle
of Rose’s Medicinal Malt Whiskey free with every
order for four large bottles of Duff y ’ s Malt at $4.30.
