The experience of Mr. W.

identical wit h your own. He writes: “I
k am a farmer and 80 must be exposed to

Or bowel and stomach trouble. One doctor called
ulceration of the bowels, another colitis.
“Then a druggist recommended PE-RU-NA to me.
I took altogether five bottles and consider myself a well man. For
merly, it was impossible for me to do a day’s work, but now farm
work does not trouble or fatigue me. I consider PE-RU-NA the best
medicine and tonic on the market. Until I took PE-RU-NA, I had
not eaten a meal for five years without distress. The lapse of time
strengthens mj admiration for PE-RU-NA, especially for catarrh and
colds. I have recommended PE-RU-NA to several friends with good
results.”
Every farm family has its medicine cabinet and in almost every
one will be found a bottle of Dr. Hartman’s famous remedy, PE-RU
NA. For coughs, colds and catarrh it is invaluable. PE-RU-NA will
ward off the grip and Spanish Flu and hasten ones recovery after an
attack. Indigestion, sour stomach, belching gas, constipation, pains
in the back, side and loins, rheumatism, all indicate a catarrhal con
dition for which PE-RU-NA is the successful remedy.
You can feel safe with a bottle of PE-RU-NA in the house.
PE-RU-NA is sold everywhere in either tablet or liquid form.

CARTER IS HELD ON
CHARGE OF ITTICK
ON BIOKO WIFE
Paul B. Carter, an expert mechanic,
is being held in the DeKalb coujjty
jail under the charge of assault and
batery upon his divorced wife, Mrs.
Clara McMillen Carter, while postal
officials are Investigating the receipt
in the mail of a powerful infernal
machine by Captain John H. Kneubel,
of Ebenezer, N. Y., a friend of Car
ter’s former wife. ,
Carter is a mechanical genius
whom the postal authorities say they
unsuccessfully sought three years
ago as the suspected manufacturer
and sendej- of three poison needle
devices which were sent to Carter’s
wife, her father and the attorney rep
resenting her in divorce proceedings
aaginst Carter.
Carter was arrested by city de
tectives last week following an al
leged assault made by him upon his
former wife, who hei is said to have
held up at the point of a pistol,
near Camp Gordon, and demanded
that she return to town and discuss
with him matters relating to their
divorce.
The infernal machine received by
Captain Kneubel contained explosives
which, it is said, wera sufficiently
powerful to demolish either the At
lanta postoffiea or any other post;
office through which it passed. The
scheme to destroy the army captain
failed through the fact that the
mechanism was . impaired by the
dent of the postal stamp and the
detonator failed to operate.
Postal authorities admit that they
cannot yet charge Carter with send
ing the dangerous package, but his
alleged personal assault upon his
former wife and the former at
tempts by some one to destroy all
those involved in the divorce pro
ceedings against himself, have
caused the government officials to
begin a through investigation of
the origin of the infernal machine,
which they suspect he sent be
cause of jealousy toward Captain
Knelbel.
Machine Is Enclosed
The infernal machine was enclos
ed in the box taken from a camera
of popular make, which had been
lined with tin to hold the explosives.
Captain Kneubel, recipient of the
machine and himself a chemist, has
stated to postal officials that the
contents of the box was a heavy
mixture of T. N. T. and other most
high-powered explosives. It was
arranged with a detonator to be set
off by electric wires connected to
a flashlight battery and so arrang
ed that a circuit would be formed
with the lid of the box was opened
The unusual coincidence that the
postal cancellation stamp struck In
a place so as to derange the wires
saved the life of the army captain
and the demolition of the building
he occupied.
Government officials state that
Captain Kneubel, who was sta
tioned for a while nt Camp Gor
don. had previously received a
communication from Carter in
which the latter invited him *o
participate in a duel. Mrs. McMil
len Carter, former wife of the man
under arrest, was employed at
Camp Gordon as a civilian em
ploye, and lives near the camp.
Carter sought the duel, it is stated,
because he believed the captain
to be interested in Mrs. Carter.
The poison needle case, in which
government officials worked on the
theory that Carter had sent the
needles because of the divorce pro
ceedings brought by his wife, oc
curred in January, 1916. Jewelry
boxes with concealed springs and
needles were received in the mail
by Mrs. Carter, by her father. S. S.
McMillen, of Flowery Branch, and
by Mrs. Carter’s attorney in Jack
sonville. ,
Government officials claimed that
the needles contained germs to pro
duce lockjaw. Carter denied send
ing these deadly packages and the
day after being questioned bv the
officials disappeared from Atlanta.
He returned of his own acco"d. and
was rot brought to the attention of
the authorities until the recent al
le"cd ••ssorlt.
Carter, in the DeKalb county jail,
has denied to federal authorities that
he sent the deadly infernal machine
received by the captain in the New
York town. Government officials,
however, are pursuing their investiga
tion.

Cotton Quarantine
Line Falls Back as
Weevil Advances
The steady advance of the boll
weevil through the northern portion
of the state has made it neces
sayy for the state board of ento
mology to move up the quarantine
line against tbe shipment of cot
ton see dhulls, etc.
A. C. Lewis, state entomologist,
has issued a notice to the railroads
that the quarantine line now runs
from LaFayette in Walker county
to Calhoun in Gordon county, thenc?
to Jasper in Pickens county, thence
to Lawrenceville in Gwinnett county,
thence to Monroe, in Walton county,
thence to Madison in Morgan county
and thence along the Georgia rail
road to Augusta.
The railroads are instructed to
take no shipments of cottonseed hulls
from points in infested territory to
points of destination north of this
