When » Western editor becomes in
dignant there is no end to his sarcasm
?,nd fury. The editor of the St Louis
Post-Diepatch refers to a contemporary
by saying : “ Since the humorous editor
of the Republican took to wearing ji
liver pad at the back of his head he has
developed wonderfully.”- And a Leav
enworth (Kan.) editor, speaking of an
odious rival, says : “He was not born to
be clubbed or shot to death. A higher
fate (about twenty feet) awaits him, and
it is a consciousness of this that harrows
his soul by day and shadows his dreams
by night, till his mind, what little ho
has, is overcome by a morbid sensitive
ness that sees the ghosts of his murdered
victims behind every corner, and an ofli
cer in every bush. Let him alone. Ho
is undergoing, everyday that he lives, the
expiation of his crimes, unmistakably
evidenced in the fires of hell that burn
in his heart and flame out in his face.
Outraged law and nature are gradually
getting even with him.”
We learn that Ellis &Co., proprietors
of Bailey Springs, are making prepara
tions to entertain an unusually large
number of visitors this summer. They are
receiving communications from all over
the south inquiring ratesand making con
tracts for board. This is only their due,
for not only are they most successful
hotel keepers, but their place is in every
way worthy of patronage. It is one of
the coolest, shadiest, breeziest places in
the South ; the locality and surround
ings are delightful; the buildings are
roomy, airy, and conveniently arranged;
the accommodations, fare and attention
are first class, and Shoal Creek is the
most romantic stream and the best fish
ing water you ever saw. Add to this
the unrivalled power of the old Rock
Spring in the cure of dropsy, scrofula,
dyspepsia and diseases of the blood, skin
and kidneys, and the sum of attractions
is irresistible. If you have ever been
there you know this is all true. If you
have not, try it just once. You will
never regret it. Address Ellis & Co.,

At Cervia, on the Adriatic sea, the
festival of “marrying the sea” was cele
brated with great solemnity Inst month.
The Bishop, at the head of a brilliant
procession, marched to the edge of the
water and cast the wedding ring into the
surf, according to the old Venetian
style when the Doge “married ” the re
public to its annual bride, the Adriatic.
