Tbe attention ol all parties who may be interested
is called to the provisions of tbe following sections of
the “Act to provide internal revenue to support tbs
government, to pay interest on the public debt, and
for other purposes, approved June 30,1864. as amend
ed by the act of March 3, 1863, including sections re
lating to the collection of iuteroai revenue, from other
acts”; j
Sec. 51. And be it farther enacted, That lbs appli
cation in.writing made by any person for a license for
distilling, as aforesaid, shall state tbe place of distilling,

there shall be levied, collected and paid on all spirits
that may be distilled and sold, or distilled «nd remov
ed for consumption or sale, of first proof, on and after
the fijrst day of July, eighteen hundred aud sixty-ii>ur,
and prior to the first day of January, eighteen hundred
and sixty-five, a duty of one dollar and fifty cents on
each and every gallon; and on and after January first,
eighteen hundred and sixty-five, a duty of two dollars
on each and every gallon. And all spirita which may
be in the possession of the distiller or in public store or
bonded warehouse, on either the first day of July or
January aforesaid, no duty having been paid thereon
•ball be held and treated as if distilled oa those daye
irrespectively, and said duties shall be paid bythe own
er, agent, or superintendent of the still or other vessel
in which tbe said spirits have been distilled within five
days after the time of r..-udering the accounts of spirits
so chargable with duty, required to hr render# 1 by
law. And the said duties shall be a lien on tbs spirit
distilled and on the distillery used for distilling the
aame, with the stills, vessels, fixtures, and tools there
in, and on tbe lot or tract of land whereon the said dis
tillery is situated, until tbe said duty shall be paid:
Prodded, That the duty on all spirits shall be collected
at no lower mte than the basis of first proof, and shall
be increased in proportion for any greater than tbe
strength of first proof, except wheh made and used in
the manufacture of vinegar or acetic acid, in which
ease the duties shall be collected oa the basis of the ac
tual proof: Preceded further, That any person who
shall distill spirits and use the same in the msnufav
tnre of any article without having taken out a
license and paid such duties as are prescribed by law in
relation thereto, shall, in addition to all other penalties
and forfeitures, be liable to pay one hundred per cent,
additional duties thereon.

ers of tobacco, cigars, Ac., are required to take out a
license, and give bond, to be approved at this office.—
Those wbo fail to give bond 1 and procure a license, *aro
in addition to all other penalties and forfeitures, liable
to pay one hundred per centum additional duties there
on.
Notick.—Merchants and others purchasing liquors,
before the duty is paid, do so at their own risk, as tbe
law compels me to seize it, no matter in whose hands

SOS REWARD.
STOLEN
FROM my stable on the night of the 20th inst., one
light sorrel HORSE, about nine years old, with
faint star in forehead, quite thin in flesh, shoes on fore
feet, foretop and mane bad been primmed square, but
nearly grown out. A MARE and COLT was taken
with the Horse, and found near Dames Ferry, about
twenty miles from Macou. A negro says a white man
sold him the Mare and Colt on Monday morning, and
went on witb tbe Horse, with bridle but no saddle on,
going towards the Indian Springs.
I will pay FIFTEEN dollars for the HORSE, and
FIFTY dollars for Thief with prool to conrict him.
