DATiL VS, GA.. FEB. 15, 1883.
Tin* 1? T V X On. Pn'lrwirt.
We feel tlmt it is but justice to
the management of tliis grjtt en
terprise that. a voice from thin
section of it should bo raised in
its helmK .
The demand for the same
has been for sometime stendilv
grvwinp in this vicinity, and the
voice of the croaker may bo heard
elsewhere in the land. It is our
purpose only to endeavor to meet
this local complaint, and that,
honor to whom honor in due, and
justice to whom justice is due, bo
awarded, and that according to
its fullest merits. '
This stupendous onterprine,
born of necesitv, to meet great
commercial demands throughout
tlm lergth and bredth of our land,
was inaugurated and put into op
eration at a tinio when of all
things, nothing could have con
duced more to the maint airmen
and support of a vast number of
our population, who were driven
to the very verge of suffering and
want for the necessaries of life on
account of the very short crop of
the year previous, 1830, and the
amount of money, though great,
paid to this free labor throughout
the whole length of the road, was
paid promptly, as the work was
I ieiformed. Many m-ii of our
mowlodgo wore enabled, by put
ting in so much time on the road,
to finish their crops and at the
same time support their families
(without going in debt) with the
proceeds of their labor.
Aside f rom the road being a
ready means of communication
with the outside world, wo must
take into consideration a few oth
er features of vaster import to all
clissos. Behold the gro t prog
ress of development of all resour-
c is, hero, theie, and everywhere
new school houses, new chinches
new factories, new mines, new
farms and new interests ofeudlnso
variety are springing up. Your
property has buou enhanced in
value many hundred per cent.
Your towns that have so long
been asdo-mont aH the bosom
of the "Dead Sea," are now
awidouiug to the now order of
things, an l are putting on the
shining garments of outeiprise
and pride.
Merolmls of the towns along
the line of road, who formerly
offeiod no inducements for you
to bring your cotton to them, on
account of inaccessible nnukels,
now moot you half way and give
you the to)) of the market, there
by benefittingyou in atloast thr ee
things, namely; the saving of
time, the highest pi ice for your
cotton and other produce, and
merchandise at the lowest figure.
The reasons are endless why yon
should appreciate the immense
and innumerable advantages off
ered by its coming to us. Again,
no wO'kofsuch magnitude Juts,
perhaps, ever been accomplished
in the stale of Georgia within the
■ me short limit of tune, ami that
t attended with comparatively
o.ich a small lost of life ami dam
age to person and property. Tm e
into consideration the many ob
stacles to overcome, a largo ma
jority of which have already dis
appeared, and you will timl that
in the management of Maj. 'V. V.
McCracken, the company have an
oflicor and th) public n servant
than iu whom there is no greater
executive ability or administ a-
tive judgment. The Major poses-
ses the happy faculty of attend
ing to his own business with an
unvarying motto of '‘promptness
accuracy and dispatch,” and Ilia
urbane co-laborer, Maj. M. N.
Beaty, is not one whit behind him
in all those qualities that com
bine to mnko up the eflioient offi
cer and the true gentleman.
Backed by n (orpi'riilicn of unlun
itid means, tliis manat ciuvnt is wr-
minly uucomp'ishing the glca esi
amount <it good for tlm bent fit of lilt
whole country, h uce ihoy are Jt-s

Now what more could a leasonahl

I have lived iu several South

W. I.FAIN, Clerk,
and nowhere have I discovered a P? have tho lie ore lo pay. You re
more exhuberant or abundant

in the composition of phvuts. You
have more than that, in many lo
calities a large percentage of lime.
Wliilo .lie latter exists as a na

Now preserve tho forces of nature
