LOCAL GOSSIP. A nice line of dry goods and notions just received at Rawia Bno's & Go. We had a pleasant call on last Tuesday from our popular rep resentative, Hon. H. 0. Rich. Go to Rawls Bro’s. A Co, and get one of those nice sugar cured hams. The stock of merchandise for- merally the property of Mr. N. T. Bulloch, was sold last tfeek at public outcry, and was bought by Mr Boze Adair at a very low fig ure. Bose has opened up the store and placed it in the hands of Mr. Jame# Bulloch and Mr, Sanders. ^Ladies, if ydA would enjoy your shopping tour around town these beautiful afternoons, and would become pei fectly forgetful of the cares of life for the nonce, just call Around at the store of J.B. A T. A. Foote and have Mr. W. W. Smith to wait upon you. Wes is one of the m >st accomplished salesmens in the state of Georgia. On last Suiiday evening Sher iff Cooper N. T. Bulloch aud W. K Carter left Dallas in search of Moses Osborne. They came up with him near Gray’s mill and placed him under arrest. He was brought to Dallas on Sun day night and lodged in jail where he awaits a hearing before the courts to answer a charge of mis demeanor. We would suggest to tW prop er authorities that the question of the legality of the forthcoming el ection bo loosed into carefully and thoroughly that there may l e no errors to correct when per haps it is too late. It is certain ly mooted now, but no doubt the minds of the people are made u\> but the question is now, will the election be valid or not. Tuesday last t’ e property of the late S. L. Strickland, tioifte ti > sale in accordance with the ad ministrators announcement, and > Mr, T. C. Mayson, auctioneer, who is also one of tho interested parties, by virtue of his wife bo- ing a sister of tho deceased, bid off the entire property for the heirs, some of which property is tiow offered at private sale by- Mr. W. R. Strie <lanJ. Call on him) you capatilists, and learn Something to your interest. We ask oUr readers (of Dallas especially) if th<\y would like to be launched out upon the tnsom Of au ocean in a small vessel up on a dark stormy night) without offlcel's or crew, or log beok, or Compass or sail, or rudder, or WCbning? Such, though painted j kettv dark, is the condition of J alias at present. No municipal ity) no one to preserve order or command the peace, tio one to suppress violence or otherwise to subserve the business interest of town, or to throw around society a bnlwark of protection. Certain ly this nightly bedlam, in certain quarters, that has made night hideous for the last several nights Should be sup pressed, for docen • cy’s sake at least. We concede that w , as a perplo, were once Subjugated and badly|demoralized but still there are rights left us by a generous government that men ou ght to be made to respect. Wonders will Never Cease. dames Blackburn, a Workman engaged upon the top of the Raccoon trestle immediately over the creek, discovered soar* of the force approaching with a car of the materia! used in finishing up tho trestle, and believing that the space was too narrow for tho car to pass him without knocking him off, shouted to them to stop, but too late it seems, and anon it came down on him, and over into the deep abyss he went ninety- four feet as clear as air, falling face downward right into the run of the creek. Mr. Henry Bras well, our informant, being one of the first to reach him asked him if he was hurt. Alter the first return of consicusness and look ing up he said: “Lord have mer cy, and did Tom fall too!” be soon recovered the use of himself and was pronounced O. K by Dr. Raines, who was called to him. What a remarkable es cape from immediate death, ii the voice of every one. . It is supposed that the swift rauing current which was about a foot and a half deep, broke the fall and thereby saved his -life. Mr. Blackburn fell within n few feet of the spot where the unfortunate negro brakeman pry goods stores, one steam sAw mill, two steam cotton gins, two water gins, one Igriit mill, a post- office and one small school. Blauksinithing voiy convenient simfe W. R Owen and R A. Meek have erected their shop. B. H. t>. ML Zlo* NAtes. farmers anticipate ait early spring, aud are prepairing their lands for the seeds. A large acreage of cotton will be planted in this section tbiB year. No oorn buyers, but all meat Hi nt (or Watson") met his death hn J or «. >*» hpre but the at the late wreck. Mir. James Glenn Monk, a pop ular commercial tourist of At lanta, dropped in to see us a few days since. Mr. Monk is a clev er young fellow, and represents one of the best firms in Atlanta; the Messrs Boynton Bros, and these two facts ta*ien together in sures him a good trade every time he comes to Dallas. Come again Jim. Acorntree Nq|e*. Road working all over the dis trict. Farm wofck going on splendidly, Wheat and tints are growing finely. A petition is out for a post-office on the line between New Hope and Huntsv lie. Mr. J. P. Elsberry's little son is very sick. Regular preaching at New Hope second Sunday in each mouth. The prohibition sentiment is gaining strength; fte are hopeful of success in the coming election. T. I hogs are not here to consume the corn. Mount Zion high school is still in progress, and conducted by Rev. J. M. Prather; the first term will expire in April. , Tho fifth Sunday in April will be d'evoted to singing at Mount Zion, conducted by G. W. Morris aud others. All are invited to at* tend and bring their baskets with something good in them. No sickness prevails in this section; but tho 14th of March the dry ticket will prevail here. More anon. J. S. U. Brandi I’enrllings. The peoplo are about donb sowing oats. Wheat is looking well. Guano is selling at Hiram at 4241b) lint erttton per tou. That beats Dallas. Some corn and Irish potatoes planted. Bedding cotton land-. There will be a great deal of it planted. Dr. J. M. and Joseph Smith are on a visit from Texas. S. W. Ragsdale linn boon very Bick, his case is now hopeful. ltev. J. 3. Reynolds preached at New Cattail yesterday from t text in Psalms “0 yen sons of men, how long will you turu my glory iuto shame." He had a very attentive coi allegation. The old blacksmith, N. D. Par ris, is selling goods, he looks well at it and his wife likes him bet ter. Most of its are going to vote tho dry ticket the 14th, hope it will prevail. I wish all the law yers and duelers, preachers teachers and smart men would write h verse or two on this sub jects Dr Connally give guano u black eyo; he is as sharp as a bri er, and I expect he knows it'. Now, couldn’t the doctor squiit a little ink on the dry side of this .question. It would not be amiss for you) Mr. Editor, to give Us littie plain talk about it) for 1 have searched in vain to find some thing indieitive of your senti ments on this subject. Speak out. Bio Ike.
