Paulding New Era. Mjr JAMKS BRACKKNRIDT.K * CO. “ IhSB Wwh Ksowiag. Fomj Halls Journal of Health. DALLA8, G.V., APRIL 5. 1883. tk is painful in the extreme to stand off and observe the pall spunting of the little qnill dri est* all over the state, nil about who shonld be the govenor of the dear people. We are about the only one now upon the list that ean with perfeot sang froid. quietly look on and await the moving of the waters. Success to the gentleman and the road. WALTER H. CONNALLY, DoroLABvnxi, March 38.—The grand jury of this oonnty at the Jannarv term of onr superior court appointed the following gentlemen a committee to pur chase a tract of land and bnild thereon almshouses for the poor •f Dongles oonntyf A. L, Goalin, 8. W, Brown, T. H. Selman, J. B, Daniel and J. V. J’d^e. Out poor have been drawing money from the county treaauary here tofore, as paupers. with orders issued by ’the ordinary, They will now have to go to the alms- houee or receive no further char ities from the oonnty. The com mittee have purchased forty acres of land from T. J, McC’srty, abont two miles west of Douglas- villa, They have employed J. M. Heaton to bnild two houses on the lan 1 end also* as superintend ent of the farm. Calhoun,March 39.—There lies been some commotion here to-day among the temperance and anti- temperanoe people over the res ignation of the chairman of the town oonnoil. The eonuoil stood three for prohibition and two against it. About the first of Janaary last the ordinance allow ing the retailing of liquors in Cal- honn was abolished, and the gal epnfnm . imwoVrovniue fashionable among consnmers. That portion of the council op posing prohibition have kept the matter hot at every mooting,hope- ing for some advantage. Upon a motion to revise the ordinance above referred to and allow the retail license granted, one oi the conncelmen elected on the prohi bition ticket refused to vote at id am! virinally, at least effectively, left the matter ia the hands of the liquor faction. The ehairmau be ing e strong advocate of temper ance, under the impulse pt the moment, offered his resignation, which was aocepted, and an elect ion ordered to fill the vacancy. The liquor men are confident of electing a man favoring the retail Heense and again vending the firey element in any quantity. The good people, knowing the terrible pffecta of tbe retail system in the past here, will oppose the elect ion of any man who wonld be wil ling to tolerate its revival. A heavy frost fell like a man- 1 tie over the fields and gardens last Monday night. The fruit crop still hoidti its own in this vicinity. Look out • abont the neat full moon, say? an old weath er prophet at our elbow. A sim ple fall of frost in dry weather will cot kill fruit. There was some feature in the matter that did not set well wLh General Toomos, yet that should not by any means indicate that there was anything wrong iu the thing. Col, N. J.
