A man to l»e successful in this
life, from a purely secular stand
point, must combine certain ele
ments in his make-up that over
constitute his rule of action.
Those elements or principles lie
must maintain throu ;li all the
relations of life. It matiers not
what profession or vocation lie
may adopt, the principle holds
good, and the facts are demon
strate 1 every day, and yon have
only to \'M>k nrminil you u.«d con
sider but a moment for a verifica
tion of them. Now there would
seem to be S'luo problem, some
hidden mystery, constituting the
secret spring of certain mens suc
cesses, when we take a cansual
glance at the record of such men,
while in trutli it is as plain as
simple addition, and as unmista
kable as cause und effect. A pro
fessional man must acquire move
thanjnat sufficient knowledge of
his art to command a living pat
ronage. He must lm ablo to pro
pound some new ideas suited to,
and that may he acceptable to
his patronage within his sphere of
lieing, Many the attorney, and
luauy more physicians, and oth
ers of other professions have
made money and attained to a
measure of renown that wove
hardly mediocre, but in all such
cases you will find a first late
financial balance in their notions
and systems, combined with so
briety, promptitude, persistence,
and last but not least, if their
foundations are built upon the
rock, honesty must be the frame
work,
recently held, the Hon. Ilenry D.
Me] laiiicl of tbo county of AYal
ton, was presented to you us a
candidate in every nay worthy of
the highest office within jour gift.
The deliberations of the couven-
vention, c»utiuu ing through two
days, were characterized by ex
ceptional concord and good fel
lowship, and it is confidently hop
ed that the choice mado will bo
ratified by you at the polls with
entire unanimity. ■
In accordance with the procla
mation of the governor, the elec
tion will be held on Tuesday, tlm
tHtli day-of this month. Tt does
not now appear that there will be
an opposing candidate, but it is
nevertheless most important that
a full vote should bo polled. This
is necessary to keep well togeth
er the county organization, for we
cannot foretell h >w soon every
democratic vote may bo needed.
The object of this communion ion
is to urge that tho polls be open
ed at every precinct in the state
and that as large a vote as pos
sible be polled. The st rto exec
utive committee urge’s upon all
local committees, county and city,! »
to give this matter their prompt,
and energetic attention, inasmuch
as the time before tho elejthm is
so short that tho responsibility
for efficient w rk must nec ssarily
devolve upon such organizations.
