Whilst the citizens of Dallas and vicinity were somewhat alarmed by the wind storm and succeeding great rain fall that visited ns on last Sunday night the terrible cyclone was getting iu its work diaginally across the state from 8. W. to N. E., playing havoc with the donisens in its aw ful wake and destroying every thing down to (he very grass of the fields as it swept like a me teor across the lan 1. A dispatch from signal headquarters states that Sundays cyclone was the same that gathered in Northern California and coming eastward was deflected from its course to southeast by the Rocky and oth er ranges <>f mountains, and the first we hear of it is iu Mississip pi, where it vented its fury upo n the small towns of W esson and Beauregard, killing mauy and completely nnhilintiag parts of the town. The ruin, sorrow and Buffering are uncomparible by anything of the kind previous in that vicinity. It seems to have , an! niiMifflil f.lea,r over , ble. To-morrow’s Tuesday, fence or no fence has been the topic of the day, while some are in favor of it a great many are opposed to it, Our county is progressing grad ually, and at some future dav will be the leading county of North Georgia. We have rail roads and n flourishing town and neat buildings when complete will be an ornament to any town, also wo have n good county pa per and every farmer, merchant and mechanic ought to patronize it. What more do we want, some say the stock law. We want too many good things at one time, if it is a good thing let us first im prove what we have got in trust. The Jlegislature will not pass The E. So mote it be. J. S. R. Warm days and genial show ers canse small grain crops to promise a good yield, but too much cotton planted for the in terest of the country. Merchants are squinting at farmers and say ing we will buy your cotton in the fall at six or seven cents. That will be ruinous to the country, but who is to blame, certainly not the merchants. Let us rnise more corn, more corn, more grass and more stock and wo Jwill have less need to raiso cotton. This country abounds in valuable Btones of almost every grade, hardening down from that of caoline to burniten and cornun- dum, which if quarried aud mar keted would cerlaiuly boat raising cotton. B.ildeiB of soap stone of a good quality are to be seen perched up iu great quantities wliioh would ouly cost an outlay for shovels, picks aud s'ono saws to work it. Mica is to bo found in chunks near tho surface, and in my judgment could be worked profitably. A species of rock resembling ih e English burr is to be found herp, and is probably equally valuable. Tube brief nearly ono hundred human beinga have been kill 'd along the track from the lower line of Harris county, situa ted in aou'liwest Ga., across *>y Conyers and Covington to Elber county, and vast losses in liye stock, houses, teuces, etc. Some whole families {were killed ont right, and again the terrible aven ger would pick out the husbaud aud leave the wife and babe, and vice versa. It is generally agreed that the like has never been kn^wn heretofore in Georgia, The storm was universal from the salubrious mountains of north Georgia to the pineries of lower Georgia, and the ranis were in many places wore without a par llcl, but the deadly cyclone varied in width from 200 to 1000 yards. Pairing out of Georgia into South Carolina we next hear of it at Greenville, where tho lightning was so inces sant that a newspaper corres pondent arose from hi i bed and by the lightnings lurid glaro wrote two pagee to his newsp v- poi in the far north.
