continued improvements upon
the home place of Rev. B, E.

the large proportions of a com

We are pained to announce the
death of the loving wife of our
friend, Mr. J. J. Poore, of this
place, Vrs. Poore leaves a little
infant about two weeks old.
Rev. Mr. J. D. Reed has taveu

and is building a sp'endid two

The Rev. Mr. Harris filled the
hour of evening services Tuesday
night «t the protract'd meeting
now in progress at the Baptist
church, and his discourse' was
logical, well handled, his style
is easy, and withal, it had won

are quite serious aud nt'entive.
Mr. Harris is a locomotive en
gineer in the employ of the T. V.
& Ga railroad, and has charge of
one of the construction trams up
on this department.
Mr. 0. A. Hamilton, our popu-

for a week or so, and may be for
an indefinite period. We have
been informed that he has been

other points. Mr. H. C. Holcomb,
recently operator, etc., at Austell,
has succeeded Mr, H. for the
present. Mi, Holcomb comes

A negro convict was killed in
the Big Tunnel last week, aud it
is not known whether it was ac
cidental or not. The train used
for construction purposes, upon
which the convicts are tr msport-

section of the road, was passing
slowly through the tunnel, ai d

they are s' crificinsr time to send

Another enterprise that pla

people of Dallas, and all visitors,
is the commodious and very
convenient livery stables now be

that is to be managed for the
convenience of the travelling
public by our friend, Mr. Bob

can be accomodated that wishes
to hire a first class horse or ve

The mad dog fever lias at last
reached Dallas, aud so hud the
dog. Last Sabbath morning the
cry of inad-dog issued from the
back yard,basement, aud environs
of tho residence of this writer, who
had been quito sick for several
days past, and soon the “sereii"
highness” of our domicile hous
ed tho. little ones, our dog,and all.
The Alarm spreading, our kind
neighbors gathered in force, and
sure enough a largo strange dog
ol tho English Bull variety, with
a head resembling a powder keg,
slobbering and incorrigible, was
made to bite the dust from a
well directed shot from a breach-
loader, and thus ended the dan
ger. Thanks friends.
The New Era welcomes the At
lanta Journal upon its exchange
list, and just here we would say,
not only because tho Journal
comes to us pregnant with all the
news of tho day from the cardi
nal points of the compass, but we
know Col. Hoge well and truly,
from Lafayette Georgia through
the throes of an internecine war,
aud later, his bold and aggressive
stand, civil and political, unto his
last adventure in Journal ism, and
we are not reluctant to concede
to him all the honor aud fame lie
has so well earned. Long live
the Journal.
Runawav.—Wednesday last, as
our youug friends, Messrs Thom
as Sat ders and Echols were en
tering the residence of Col. Thom
as J. Cooper, upon Powder
Springs street, to arrange for the
picnic on baud, looking back they
discovered the horse loose, and
leaving at a furious rate. Mr.
Sanders's horse simply made
things lively for awhile, hut left
M astea NVillie Foster’s team in a
sad plight. In passing over, or
through it, as the case was, he
demolished things generally in
the vicinity for awhile. It is not
known at what the horse took
fright. Moral—work your horses
more and feed them less, when so
full of life.
