Mrs. Baker had but recently closed the house, and taking her little ones in hand joined her husband in the field some dis tance from the hsase, and soon the elements in the direction of the house iudioated fire, and har rying back with hit faithful yonng wife found that the omiuous low ering clouds of smoke arose from h -ir own late happy comforta ble home, Everything was razed to the level of the ear>lt. The door, which had been olosed by rs. Baker only a few moments before, was found ajar, and Mr. Baker, running into the house for the purpose of bringing out a trunk in which he had placed away over forty dollara of his bard earnings, found the trank burst -d open and money aud most of the con'euts gone, He only saved his old pocket book, con taining about one dollar and filty cents, which was on the mantle. Thus a poor honest industrious man in n few minutes is msde to experience the total loss of cvery- tliing. There was no insurance. The neighbors and every one should aid in this hour of sore need, aud <lo so not grudgingly. The New Era off rs both sympa thy, and more—substantial help. Le. others do likewise.
