proceeded to make himself at home.
The elork gnzed upon the stranger for a

Tin, stranger oileyed tho command.
Apologizing for tlio liberty taken, he
then proceeded to introduce himself iu
the politest manner possible.
“My name,” the stranger remarked,
“is Mandeville—Lord Mandeville.”
It appeal’s that it was Lord Mande-
ville, who wns on a visit to his wife’s
father, Mr. Yznaga del Valle. He was
out on a hunting expedition, and had
gone to tho shop to take a seat to eat his
lunch. Of course it was then the clerk’s
turn to apologize, which he did in the
profusrst manner, and a hearty laugh all
around, iu which his lordBkip joined,
was indulged in. Quite a friendship has
now sprung up between Lord Mande
ville and the clerk.
Ax indignant landlord writes demand
ing the name of the party who first sug

says he provided every bedroom in his
house with a coil of rope, and the first
