LOCAL GOSSIV, A li tie raiu now aud then Would please the most of onr men. Superior court little more than • month off. Annt Nancy Jones comes for ward with the first cotton blos som of the season, from her ex tensive farm on Pumpkinvine. It. A. Mocks, six miles south of Dallas sends to our office the first cotton blossom we have seen. Wo direct attention to the ad vertisement of Mr. J. Hammer, contractor, in this issue. Give him your work aud you will be ph-ared in character of work and prio s The young people of Dallas are rehearsing the songs selected for the coming S. S. Celebration nearly every evening. Look to your lanrals y# visiting schools. Should the seasons continuo favorable to the growing corn crops of the couutry ii is predict ed that the price of corn will not exc ed 4o cts. pur bushel another season. The citizens of Dallas who at tended service at the church last Sunday were well ropaid for the heat aud fatigue of going in the exoelLncy of the discourse. Seven large rattlesna es, with Tittles numbering from six to nine, have Oeeu killed in the vi cinity of Braswell within a w ek past. Ed Prothro sleet s with one every night, The new bell for the Methodist church was shipped from tin; foundry on the lDth iust. and Chairman Jim Huberts, of tli committee says he is exp ctiug it every day. Col. Jasper L. Clay, tbe man of the “iron will”, is in Dallas aud vicinity with his now Empire seperator threshing out the cer eals, and he is making quick work of it loo, and giving gene a satisfaction. Pumpkinvine Sundry School, numbering nbout 115 in a 1, will attend the Sabbath Scliou. Cele bration almost in a body on tin- day appointed, July 18th. next Mr. R. P. Gann, Secretary, gives ns the information. Mr, J ihu W. Wood is the superiut Jiuluut ol the school. Mariued,—Last week, Mr. Ber ry Burns to Misi Sarah J. Wix, Pumpkinvine district. Also, Sunday morning at Soney Polk County, Mr. Will F. Foote to Miss Annie Peek. The happy twain came down to DallaB and a family reunion at Mr. George W. Foote’s was one of the features of the week. What is the matter with the bells? Only a few days ago the bell "f the Methodist church of Dallas while beiug placed in perm anent position, W'S cracsed in ringing it and rendered useless, and now the Cedartowu Adverti ser says the same thing occurred over I lit re the other day at the Methodist church while tolling the death of Mrs. Fambroiurh. Dr. Wellbo:n is in Dallas, and gives the citizens of Pauldiug an opportunity to subscribe for the "Peoples Edition of the Bible, Old and New Version” the “Ce lestial Symbol” interpreted, a most intensely interesting work, also the latest, cheapest and best maps of the United Sta es and the World. A New Post-Office,—The de partment has established a post- office at Braswell station, E. T. V. & Ga. railroad to the great conve nience cf ‘he many citizens of the upper portion of the county. Mr. H. N. Hagan lias been commis- sione.1 P. M., and Mr. Ed E. Pro- tho, the operator at that point, will act as assistant, Mr. Ha. an is merchandising, aud by the way, is enjoying a splendid patronage at the cew town. Said Angeline to George; “Dear, there is but one thing lacking now to make our hapiness com plete upon this mundane shore.” "And what is that, deary, pray? Only name your desires, ayel ev en give me the least hint of tour minds aspirations and my attach ment for you will prompt me to obey.” “Ob, George! it is of another attachment I speak now, just go round to J. B. & T. A. Foote & Coirq any and get me one of those now Doraestio Sewing Machines, with all the attachments and my earthly joy will be complete. We welcome the r turn of Mr. Robert L. Rawls to Dallas, from Hearn Institute, Cave Springs,Ga, end trust bis short stay with us may be pi asant. Also our long time friend, Mr. W. M. Snell, of j Pulaski, Gl, and late of Florida, is once more in town to the de light of his many friends. Take in the town gontlomen, you are very welcome. Home Aoais.—Misses Fannie and Nettie Robertson, the accom plished daughters of our esteem ed townsman, Dr. Snowdon R ib- ertson, returned from college at Gainesville, Ga. last Thursday afternoon. They have been in attendance at that popular insti tution for several months. Dr. R. attended the commencement and brought them home, where they were riven a reception and wel come uiu1ertlieauspic.es of the la dies and gentlemen of Dallas. Al- ogetliei the entertainment whs most recherche in all of its ap pointments. Wo call attention to the d ; s- covery of gold, as announced by our correspondent from the Nine teenth, in auo her coin mu. The discovery is simply a proot of our oft repeated assertions, viz; There is more gold, copper, iron sulphur, etc. in Pauldiug county than iu any.o‘her county within a radius of one hundred miles. What we need is somebody with the c;-pit ».l aud exp“rieiice to develop it. The New Era has been place.’, under renewed obligations to that good man, uncle George W. MuLarty, for his romemberance of us. By special invitation to I is happy homo one of the de partment of lie Era was din>d io uncomfortable satiety, and unc e Georg - brought down a fine m ss ol rousting.-ars to the other, thus illustrating his knowledge of hu man nature. Please a man’s stomach and he will say good 'things about you. A fine win at crop is now f , and the prospects s» for very fa vorable for nn abundant corn crop, still Dallas has no mill te convert a 1 this grain into flour aud meal. So (nobody is sleeping over a bonanza on a small scale, do you hear? The Mails.—There is yi t a sad want of concert of action between the senders and carriers of our mails. Though there is a differ ence of 85 miles from this point to Atlanta by way of the E. T. V. & Ga. and the W. & A road by the wav of Rome, still the Atlan ta mail sometimes comes oy the latter route two hours earlier thau direct through, 34 miles. With the present passenger schedule of the E. T. V. & Ga railroad it is to our interests to have the mails come all the w iy around by the way of Rome, which reaches Dallas about 1 p. m. A forty-horse power engi.'e passed through Dallas last week on wheels, going somewhere in the lower part of the county. TITEMS FROM THE NINETEENTH There is much excitement here over ‘he finding of a nugget of goldby a sou of J. S. Hesterley |,on the farm of'Mr. P. K. Leathers, better known as the Daniel Wash ington farm. While the boy wus, plowing the point of his plow bursted open a rock which called his attention. He lookYiora the rock just twolve pennywlights "1 gold. Ho says the rook wls -quitt ed with it, but being too roliug to have a knowledge otwhnnhe had hold of ho carelessly flitew the lock aray, but has shown his father a near where it wiM as lie can. Hestley, before linking it known to Leathers, lensefl a half in'erest In the mineral oji the lot and proposes to go to wrirk soon. Hestley and leathers seen to be excited over the prospect I was at- one of their houses wlnn they reti rued from church hist Sun day, und asked them to I ti ll me wlmt portion of the Sori|itU'e the preacher used for a text. They first said he didn't rake any text, but after studying awhile they ro- nieinberoii hearing him say some thing about the Woman at the well of Samaria I asked them if they would not have foigotten about the well if they had not been thinking about digging a hole iu the ground themselves. Everybody seems to think it will prove a rich mine. Leathers has refused two or throe times wh.it tho place would otherwise bo worth. Hesterley says he won d not take twenty-five thmsninl dollars for his sliafu. Would you not all bo glad if you were like me, even a forty-third cousin to one of them. I have shown cous in Bud much friendship since he discovered the nugget of gold, but he p ijs less attention t > mo than ever. Corn looks as well as we ever saw it on thi.side. Cotton a little behind 1 ist year. Mr. II. L. Kirk’s family aro all down with measles but two and they liav'ut been long up. W. C.
