e «« Ifr A SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY. A Nr>f niiri flloM linnorinnt Tlirnry on One of tin* Mom V itnl l(nwtl»iiN ol ilie l)ny. If ftny 0110 Imd in for mod Que.m Elizabeth in l.oi* palmiest days that she could have been Roated in her i':dnro in Tendon and conversed with Hir WoLi i lbdoi^h in his North Caro lina home; roceivir.p a r.'ply from him within an hour’s til no, she would have declared it to bo a miracle. And yot, had they lived in the present day, this apparent, miracle would most readily have been wltOesso 1 and not seem at all strange or unnatural. The truth is, new principles are coming into e\i fence, and the operation of many laws v.nknowii in the past is being fully understood in the proseut. In no way tlo.»s this fact come more forcibly to the mind than in the care, and treatment of the human body. Millions of I eople have died in past ages from Mine in- sign iticant or easily controlled cause which is thoroughly understood now and readily handle:!. Qou iimptiondnringlheontiie past has been ennaidc o l an incurable disease. And yot it is demons:rated that it has been wild can bo enroll, even after it has had a long run. I)r. Felix Oswald has just contributed a notable article on this subject to the 1‘npu- lar Science Monthly. Ho rogurd-* consump* t|r>n in pulnumnry scrofula. The impurities of t he bleo l produce a constant irrltlit ' « in the lungs, thus destroying their do n ale tis- hUes and causing death, llis theory shows conclusively that consumption is a blood dis ease. It has it* origin primarily in ad ranged condition of the kidneys or liver, the only two organs of the body, aside from the lungs, that purify the blood. When tl o kidneys or liver are diseased they are in a sue or la related slat *, which communicates poison to every ounce of blood that passes through them. This poisonous blood circulates through the system and comes to the lungs, where tho poison is deposited, causing decomposition in tlii- flnoly formed colls of the lungs. Any diseased part of the body has eont imin iting power, and yet the blood, which is the If • of the system, is brought into direct contact with those poisoned organs, thus cnirying contagion to nil parts of the body, bishop Jesse T. Deck, 1). 1)., LIj.D., whose death has been so recently regretted, is reported to have died cf pneumonia, which me lioal authori ties alllrm indicates a diseased condition of the kidneys. It is well known, moreover, that for several years he had boon the victim of tD-vt.ro kidney trouble, and the pneumonia win hlbially terminated his life was only tho 1h*i r snlrof the previous blood poisoning. Toe dJKtfry matter which is left in the lungs by the impure blood dogs up and finally chokes the patient. When this is accom plished rapidly it is called pneumonia or quick consumption; when slowly, consumption, but in any event it is the result of impuio blood, caused by diseased kidneys and liver. Tncso are facts of science, uud vouched for by all the lending physicians of the day. They efiew tho desirability—nay, the necessity, of keeping Iheso most important organs in i or feet condition, not only to insure health, but also to escape death. It has bo ‘li fully shown, to the satisfaction of nearly .every unpreju- |<pced mi ml. that Warner’s oufc Kidney and Diver (Sure D the only known remedy that can cure and keep in health the groat hlood- purlfying organs of tin body. It acts directly upon these members, healing all ulcers which maw have formed iu them, and placing them ill Cootidifion to purify and not poison the blood. This is no idle statement nor false theory. Mr. W. 0, Bench, foreman of the Buffalo (N.Y.) Rubber Type Foundry, was given up to die by hoth physicians and f rionds. For four years lie had a terrible oough.no- oompiuiied by night sweats, chills, umlnll the well known symptoms. He spent a season South and found no relief. He says: **I finally concluded to try Warner’s Safe Cure, and in three months 1 gained twenty pounds, recovered my lost energy and my health was fully restored.” The list could he prolonged indefinitely, but enough lias been said to prove to every sufferer from pulmonic troubles that there is no reason to be di cournged in tho least, und that health can bo roatoiod. The art of removing lint, dust and light matter adhering to velvet consists tit tlio proper mode of managing tlie brush. Take a hat brush—not too soft, but having tho bristles elastic, and re turning nt once to their original state after being pressed aside—hold firmly trader the palm of the hand in the direc tion of the arm, and with the bristles downward, and pressing them first into the substance of the velvet, then twist around the arm, hand and brush to gether, as on an axis, without moving them backward or forward. The for eign matter will thus be drawn up and flirted out of the flock without injury to tiie substance of tho velvet; and the brush must be lifted and placed in a similar manner over every part required to lie brushed. By this means velvet will be improved iustend of deteriorated, and will Inst for years. Together Again. Nearly half a eontury ago a sturdy Pennsylvania farmer by the name of Love started for the far West with his fnrnily, hut being robbed on the way of all his money lie had to leave his three children.with strangers while he and his wife toiled ahead on foot.
