Mr. Clem- euts made glad the inner chamber oi this office and our hearts Mon day last, Miss Lula Treadwell, a beauti ful young lady of Atlanta, has been visiting Mias Minnie Badg- •tt, ef Burnt Hickory diat. and other friends in aud around Dallas. Miss Badgett will accom pany Miss Treadwell to Atlanta. We always welcome such you.ig ladies to Dallas. The municipal government of Dallas works us smooth as an old 8eth Thomas clock already The beat selection was made iu a pru dent, conservative, sober and courageous marshal, Rich Bone was the man. By Order Board Trustees Camp Ground.—We loam from the most undoubted source that two more offers of land for camp ground purposes huv j been made. Mr G. W. Lawrence offers the ground beyond- Pumpkiuviue in the vioinity of his home, and Fsq. J. H. Tamer, offers ground in Acorntne District, known as Gum Spring. If there is a committee appointed at all we presume such a corn mi\tee will take these places under a^yisemant and the best selectionjlor all concerned will be made The August term of Paulding Superior Court might be called this time, the first for nearly a quart r of a century, a temper ance court. Immediately upon th* opening of court the town uu- thoriti a ordered the closing of all saloons, and it was indeed pa thetic, as well as novel, to see the boys, accustomed to their nip, sitting ar>und ihe well up>n the square all day, somewhat ro- aembling patience upon a mouu- uent, etc. Hon. Mark H. Blaudfoid, of Muscogee, was el- cted by the Leg islature Associate Supieme Jus tice vice Judge Mar'in J. Craw ford, deceased. The unfortunate invalid, Mrs. Ogletree, mother of Chas. Ogle tree, the abductor of the lit'le news boy, Chariey Tilton, men tioned in last weeks Era, ha< been received at the county alms-house, and her amiable son is lu/kiug somewhere in the vicinity of lii ram dodging the bailiff. Mr. J. J. Wood, of Nebo, P. O. this county, brought ns samples of his grnpes, rich, luscious and altogether excellent, Mr. Wood has about one eighih of an acre in bearing this year, upon which ho has an many as right varieties, and he desires information upon the manner of cultivation, and • description of the best varieties adapt d to our climate. Any one familiar with the management of gripes will confer a f*vor by re sponding through the columns of the Era. Curiosities of Nature. Mr. W oi W. Smith has certainly nn eye for 'he rare end the beautiful. Me brought into our office a small insect he hud c ptured near his solioo 1 bouse during one of his strolls, ami while studying the beauties and de formities of nature that posessed pecu liar characteristics, a worm onaased in a cocoon cotnpoxtd of shells, enrolls, minute crustocal, etc.. which snr- rcuuding conrtituded the domici'e ot the worm, No naturalist has ever classified Prof, Wesley Smith’s curios ity, and he justly deserves the honor of the discovery. Marcua A. Brown, who has re cently been advertised so exten sively for an assault with intent to murder, in this county some two or three weeks ago, and who has been eluding his pursuers so successfully, was captured by Mr. Rufus Pearson last Saturday morning in the vicinity of his brother-in-law's, andarraug>-d be fore Justices W. A. J, Lee and W. M- VVooddall, at this place. Brown waived trial, would not make bond, aud went to jail. Mr. Lit Brown, father of Mar cus, is a very popular and up right and true man, and lias the spmpathy of the jeople generally. The ioe cr am fust val, given on Aug. 2nd, f r the benefit of the Methodist church, was a complete success, netting something, over twenty dollars. Misses Fannie and N ttie Robertson, two accon^- plished young lalies of Dallas, and Miss Josie Wilks, a charming young lady of Gainesville, Ga, de serve great praise f r their untir ing energy, and ihe successful conaumation of their plans over, we are sorry to say, a certain amount of opposition. Mrs. Dr. Robertson and Mrs. Clonta bad charge of the ice cream table. Tin gr-b bag, which afforded much fun for the young folks, was handled very su.ccessfuily by three uf oi r little girl’s, Misses Trudie Robertson, Lei in Foote and Liz zie Roberts. 4 Mr. Will Turner, sou of Esq, J. H. Turner, of Acorntree diet, kill3(1 a genuine horn snake re cently His Snakeship was pro vided with a curved horn about three fourths of an inch long, and underneath, or on the ground side, there was also a sting which was a half or three fourths of an inch long, tint he would dart out like his tongue, whenever upon striking an object with his tail the hook would h'<ng, etc. Alto gether it was a frightful customer. Paulding County Singing Convension. 1 lie regular mum il convention of the annual convention of the abovo association waa held at Pumpkinvine cuureli last Sunday, and a vuy full attendance from nil |>ur:s of theenuu- ty greeted the *nacapers The singing was moBt exeelleul. conduced iu short lessons by each iiiefessiuual belonging so the convunion, and sweeter voce! music we have never beard. Dallas was somewhat enlivened by a tight rope or eable perfor mance last week in the afternoon, followed at ai >ht by a aleight of hand performance in the court house. The attendance we are in formed waa fairer than the bIiow. The most exoiting part of the performance on the cable, which was not down on the bill i, was introduced by our popular mer- cli nt. Mr. F. M. Gann. Fruuk walked the cable by awiogiug un deract!), and when he concluded to conclude his periortuHncea in letting loose to drop to the ground by some means he fell, strikiu/ Ii in face against the ground p~ o- ducing a fruoturo of his lower jaw bone, which has laid him up this week. a great many offers have Seen ma.lt- lor t'um|i grounds by the good clllu'ti* ol Paulding.
