T. V. & Ga. railroad, a short distance above Macon, and were brought up on the ufternoon passenger train. Mr, Turner was at work for the company, and located in a very malarious section of the road. He was with his family here during court week, but returned to his labors, where from exposure to that dreaded malarious poison he was stricken with fever of a very nudignant type. He was in bed but a day or two, On Saturday morning his symptoms becan e alarn#ig, and on the following Sunday morning at 4 o'clock his spirit was fretd from its prison house and went back to his God. The family were not aware of his serious illness in time to be saving the life of Matthew.*. Th s occurred below Hiram, the fra.n moving at the rate of 15 miles an hour, Davis pushed Cooper bi. k into the corner of the oar aua prevented him from a-rain shoot ing. In {he meantime Osborn had aroused from his lethargy and was making things lively with his little gun. Several shots were fired, and about this time Osborn deserted bia colors and soug’t piace and safety by leaping off, haels over head, upon the shores of the plutouian darkness, and the railroad bank and quiet reigned. Cooper was allowed to pass on to Dallas, aud as soon as % warrant onuld be issued he was arrested and Monday last wai arraigued before Notary W. A. J. Lee upon the charge of assault ..ml attempt to murder. He had no evidence; die case was plain, yet he w >s al- owod every legal right. He co • Uucted his own c.ise, and his cross examination of the witness es would have done credit to an experienced attorney. He made his statement, and Messrs W K. Fielder and J H. Weaver, enoh on a short review of the evidence be fore the otniri for the state, left matter with Ksq. Lee. Cooper was ordered to give a $500 bond failing to do so, at this writing is in jail. Protracted Meetings. It seems that the good work of the protracted services at the Methodist church is not begin- ing to end just yet. The meeting is now entering upon the third week, and the general interest is far above par. Mo flagging zeal nor listless attention apparent there. Ministers laity and peo ple with one accord are united in this grand work. Bev. Mr. Payne is laboring with indefatigable en ergy for the lasting good of this people; and at great personal sac rifice Rev. David C. Brown is again on hand to render h'B val ued aid. Rev. Mr, Ellmore, of Macon county, visiting this place, is also preaching the word in its lion passenger car several of the boys of Dallas, and the heroes of our chapter, viz: One Mose Os- burn aud John F. Cooper. Os- buru conceiving the idea, no doubt, that he bad as well succeed Mr. Kline as anyother small fry, and too, feeling very unanimous, declined to honor the modest de mand of Mr. Davis tor his fare. He int'mated, in language that would not do for a Sunday school paper, that if vl r. Davis did not pass him O. K. it would be sim ply Davis,s misfortune, at all events he would not pay nor off, but proneised to pay before he arrived at Dallas. His pard, Mr. Cooper, paid his fare, and Mr. Davis tried him to pay Moses’s, the meek and humble Moses, but he declined, and several of the gentlemen present tried to per suade Cooper io pay it, whereup on an altercation ensued. Mr. Davis stab d the rules governing him in the premises, and that he would be compelled to put him (Osborn) off, and Cooper insisted that as he Had passed the first station with him he was bound <o carry him through to the end of the road if desired and bring him back to the aforesaid station, Mr. Davis demurred, and at this juncture some of the passengers interposed, and from some inno cent asseriion of one of the pas sengers the J—n lie was given by Cooper.and instantly several were on their feet, Cooper drawing his pistol as he arose, cockiu ; it and presenting it at Mr. Ben Mat thews, Mr. Davis rushed forward snd seized the pistol, turned it aside as it fired.thereby,no douht DALLAS PRICES CURRENT.
