Chetty has arrived safe and Round back at headquarters with out any scalps from the wild wastes of the west. Gresham had them on hand for him from the Atlanta post-office. Indian summer is again upon os, that pleasing combination ol weather that gives yon iu the •norning a.foretaste - of the joys of the ingleside, so soon followed by genial summer. Old Uncle Billey Root, a drng- gist of over 40 years experience in Marietta alone, has gone out ' f of the business. He is an honest 1 man with rnary friends, and that I his last days may be days of •. peace is the wish of this writer. dim tries. Now place the value of tho farm products of the wes tern and northern states at $575,- 000,000, which enormous amount is exclusive of cotton money, and subtract the sum of southern pro ducts, and wo liava $30,000,000 in favor of northern and western farm labor. Now the point is, how does this comparison of the valuation of the products of the different sections comparo with the population, north and south? It would seem thnt the pro rata per capita is in favor of the south, therefore with improved methods, energy, economy and sobriety, and with thu dawn of a new eia of manufacturing, mining and mill ing etc. breaking upon us there is uo power on earth that can s/ay our onward course Camp Ground. This Vast ntn- unt of corn at 25 ots. per bushel is worth five hundred million dol- \ lars.^ Supposing that 10 bushels '• per head would be lequired for the support of tho people of the j ; United States, that would be five 1 . hundred million bushels, leaving „• a surplus ol 1,500.000,000 bushels for the various demands outside fl? CS bread, and for export, etc. The pro rata of our southern sunny land estimated to be one fourth of this surplus, at the g nerally ruling price, at corn gathering time, 40 cts. per bushel, would be $150,000,000, add to this the value of six million bales of cdttou at y- $45 per bale $270,000,000, aud • 1 $75,000,000 for the wheat crop • ’‘•'and'we have $195,000,000, /he val ue of our southern products, cot ton, oorn a.td wheat.
