The Grand Jury of Clayton county recently found true bilk of indictment against two mis sionary Mormon elders named W A. Wilson and 8. J. Parris, charg ing them with vagrancy, in that they were strolling around about the oooutry without occupation or visible moans of support. A young white man by the name of Bl ight was arrested be low Pine Log Monday morning on a charge of liorge st juling. In Hint vicinity lives an unmarried wo man named Elizabeth Avery, about 85 years old. There in a home of poverty and sin, her and her six year old daughter lives alone. Ou the 15th. aud Kith ins visiting and charitable neighbors found the woman siok in bed. she said nothing of tho true state of affairs, but suspicion was ar oused which resulted in an inves tigation being bad on Monday last, The little girl upon being closely questioned, sai.l she know where the baby was buried, aud led to the spot near tho house. Her mother had made her take a hoe and scrape out a hole and place the murdered child in it, covering it wi h a little dirt, a few rocks and some straw. The mother warned tho child that if she disclosed it s whereabouts she would kill her. But that in nocent little girl,not comprehend ing tho turpitude of tho crime committed by her mother, uot on ly revealed tho place of its burial, but said: “Mamma wrung the baby’s neck aud hit it on the head with a stick.” The dead in fant was unearthed, and Dr. Chil ders upon examination found its neck broken and its skull crushed. The mother, when confronted with the ghastly corpse, acknowl edged to giving. the child birth, but den’id putting it to death. She «r.ve no satisfactory state ment of its untimely taking off. A. P. Dodgen, Notary Public, act ed as Coroner and held an in quest. The jury placed the sus picion ou the mother, and as so in as her physical condition will admit she will be brought to Marietta and lodged in jail.
