passed the prohibitory amendment
to the constitution, by a vote of 81
yeas and 2 nays.
It is proposed to enlarge Oconee
county, Ga., with a slice from
Greene county, and remove, the
courthouse from Watkinsville to
Farmington, a more central point.
Postmaster-General Vilas hns di
rected the removal of two railway
mail clerks for the use of intoxica
ting liquors while on duty. The
department, it is said, will rigidly
enforce the rules governing such
cases.

lished states that there are 4,400,-
000 Jews in Europe, 300,000 in Asia,
85,000 in Africa, 250,000 in Amer

cotton mills of Columbus (the larg
est in the south) have declared a div
idend of 14 per cent, as the profit
of last year’s opperations. It is
thought that the Eagle and Phoe
nix will, this year, add another
large factory to its system of mills.
