BRANCH.
Mu. Ehitoh.—I will give you n
few dots from this section. Every-
liin g is going on lively and th.-
farmers are moving along with
their work nicely since tho rain,
fjr it seems as .if spring was liere
o stay. There are some corn up
and cotton planted. I his is April
and there are some .fools yet.
There has been a great deal of
talk about a wild man that has
been seen about Hiram nnd around
ubou* this settlement for tho past
few days, and whilo soino boys
were out fishing run upon a queer
looking trnt near Branch made out
of |K)les and pinctops, which fright
ened them very much, and made
the report that they had found tho
wild man’s habitation; so when 1
heard the news I decided to go and
sue for myself, for I thought 1 was
the bravest one in the settlement!
so about good daylight 1 was on my
way to investigate the tent and the
whereabouts of the wild man, as I
neared the place whore the hoys
said they Been tho tent I began to
feel a little scared, but nevertheless
1 ventuied closer up to tho the
tent, so the boys went in and told
t4io daikey that there was u wild
man in the skttlemciit, and that his
lmwk arbor was supposed to be his
den, and tolling him that there
was more o.it on tho search, just
remain quiet aud when they come
along to give them a scare, so the
darkey obeyed, ami it wasn’t long
till there was a half dozen or more
came along and formed a circle
around tho tent ami begin to thiiilt
they had him, hut brng went the
darkey's gun and such a running
you never heard of before, fo r
there was one darkey in the crowd
that got so bail frightened he rail
clear out of tho settlement aud has
not been heard of since.
