THEl^TjttfflrTAY.
Vany of the voters of old Paul
ding bagin to roll into {Dnllas on
lat I'ltesduy inotning to hear the
joint debate between the demo
cratic and third party speakeia.
in the beautiful grove under tli
shrdes tlio eager crowd met at
about eleven o'clock full of life and
/.cal, ready to hear the argument
on either side. The committee of
arrangement had no trouble and
tho announcement was made that
Get). Gordon would speak first
followed by.J. A. Sibley, candidate
f rr Congress, followed by Judge
Maddox, also a candidate for Con
gross, amt that Mr. Sibley should
close the dobato after Judge Mad
dox.
Everybody seemed to be satisfi*
ed with the arrangement and Gen.
Gordon was introduced and opened
t te joint discussion, Gen Gordon's
•p i cli w» s one of the best politi
c il spree hes we have heard. Hi«
speech was fall of true democratic (politic*, but we wi 1 give our opin
das tine and wholly void of any as to the result of next
thing that the strongest republi
can or third party man could take
any offense at. Instead of abuse
lie said thou'h they continae to
assault the great democratic party,
liis respect and lovo would follow
them wherever their convictions
lead the n. It is the generosity of
the great Gordon that makes
Georgia love and honor him.
showe 1 that the people of the
South were the greatest people on
e rt i and that Georgia wore tho
boll or the prou 1 title of empire
state of tho South, that he loved
Georgia, her people and their ev-
ery interest. While it was a strong
appeal for democracy, truth and
right, yet he had no words of abuse
for the people Paulding county.
It was listened with marked atten
tion, no disturbaace except a few
young men that felt no doubt they
knew more than the old hero him
self, but the thiaking men of al
parties sliowod him the respect due
him.
Next came Mr. Sibley, who is a
flowery speaker, he did not read
the expectation of some of our
people, but he is a good humored
fellow and for his ago and experi
ence in the conflict of political war
acquited himself very well. He
tried in his first speech to answer
Gen. Gordon, and in that did
about as well as anyone oonld haw
done, for it was simply unanswer
able. Then Judge Maddox, tin
democratic candidate for Congress
opened up his volumn of facts in
wb e't he gives more inoite to tin
evils and how to address then
than any man that has ever bee>
before the people i»f the Seventl
district. Then Col. Sibley closed
with an effort that far excelled lib
speech in the morning in which In
delivered himself of his regula
third party speech, leaving the ar
gument of Gordon a id Maddox to
be digested by the voters that
hoard firm.
When Gen. Gordon c’osed hit-
speech three little girls, the pride
of democratic fatheis and mothers
assended the stand each wit h a
beautiful bpatiquel of flowers and
with their little hands lifted them
up to the man whose face tells the
