THERE IS BUT LITTLE OF IT
COMING.
Tho <’ru|i Miivf, Do Very Much Shorter

Itemain Low I,oiie.
From Hie Atlanta Cokatitutlon,
What about oottou?
The recent rise in price ami the
unquestionable decrease in yield
that is showing up as tho season
enmes on-e-do these things servo to
show that cotton will be king yet
one* more in tho sunny southland?
Whether to or not, there is a ray
of h*po with it all sufllciont to
daveout all darkness (rout the
funner’* heart nnd light up every
rural home with comfort and witli
j->y.
W hat does it mean, this riso in
the prii e? Is it a | ormanent rise
or simply it temporary fluctuation?
Is it based on the legitimate scale
of supply and demand?
These are questions whioh the
farmers of Georgia and the entire
south would like to have answered
by some man in position to know
whereof lie speaks urn) honest
enough not to answer unless lie
doe* know.
The Constitution yesterday
sought an interview with Mr. \V.
C. Sanders, of the firm of S. M
Inman & Co. Mr. Sanders is
thorougly alive to th t cotton situa
tion always and never speaks with
out deliberation and wise caution.
\\ hen soon by The Constitution
mil asked what he thought of th-'
outlook for the yield of tut* pr sum
cotton crop, whether it will lm ear
ly or late us compared with Is 1
year,Mr. Sanders siidt
Mr. Namters's Opinion.
“In the first place, I will say
that I am a strong believer in the
enerally accepted belief that then
i* a shortage in the cotton acreage,
also a great decrease in the ase of
commercial fertilizers.
“Dositif* this, on account of a
cold dry spring the seed was laU
in germinating. Again, on a> count
of flootls in tho western rivers the
planting or rather replanting of the
inundated area was very late.
Ulien came the excessive Aogu t
rains tending still to retard matu
rity and not only thi«. but hat is
worse, causing the shed I'm ; f
much of tho young fn it wl-'clt

20th to September 10th, tin l.itt r
September, 1802. was 200,000 to
800,000 bales less than *n the 1st
of September, 1801, and if this in
true it will help to emphasize the
difTerenco between this and last
year’s crop.”
It Is Nut Remunerative.
“How do the general prospects
for tho Ga. farmer appear? '
“So far a* I am info.in* l this
crop is being cheaply raised nnd
gathered, but I do n)t believe the
present price for cotton is remu
nerative to tho farmer."
“Is there nny talk among the
f -rulers of holding their co;t»-n
this year, and if they do what ef-
f ct will it have?”
“Th# experience of tho last yoar
or two in holding has resulted so
disastrously 1 think there is but
liule disposition to hold, and but
little ability to hold if there was a
will."
“Wlmt do you think of tho proB.
rut prices?
“I think cotton is olioap. Wo
may, of course, looit for fluctua
tion •, each advance carrying it to
ward a higher level of prices.”

tion of Paulding Oo.

FLOYD'3 COURT HOUSE,
The Corner Aton.’ I.iti-l With Honest
l’rhle.
The corner stone of tho new
courthouse of Floyd county was
laid last Tuesday by the Masonic
order of tho stut*.
The njws had been widelysprcad
and tho masons of Georgia and
11 >rth Alabama responded in large
numbers. The crowd out number
ed any former crowd ever seen in
the city of Rome.
SjKHiches were made by some of
the most fluent and prominent men
of the slate and were highly ap-
pieciutcd by the great throng of
people.
Almost all Masonic lodges in
north Georgia,together with many
from middl* Georgia were repre
s uited; north Alabama was also
well represented. The procession
was a long one hfeaded by an excel
lent band that give life and spirit

“How much short of th* last
