Women *»e the South—The Richmond Dis

i ’ism and si-lf sacrifice by which the Women of
the South emulate the conduct of their female an-

terfie-d, S. C., has sent her son. her sole support,
to the service of the State. This is akin to the
*:. : ri» of Mrs Lewis, (so handsomely alluded t*>
■ v Hon. J.remiah Moiton in his thrilling and

K- volntion smii her three sons to resist the at

them if hr crossed that mountain, never to see

famous exclamation, in the darkest hour of the rev
olution, “Give me but a banner, and let me plant
it on the mountains of West Augusta, and I will
vet save the independence of the country.” And
with such a spirit still alive among the women of
the South, who doubts that the Cause of Inde

is tree from its attacks, r,or
is there one which it may not destroy. The scrofu
lous taint is variously caused by mercurial disease,
low living, disordered or unhealthy food, impure
air, tilth and filthy habits, the depressing vices,
anil, above all, by the venereal infection. What
ever he its origin, it is hereditary in the constitu
tion, descending “ from parents to children unto tin-
third and fourth generation;” indeed, it set-ins to
be the rod of Him who says. “ I will visit the
iniquities ofthe fathers upon their children."
Its effects commence l*v deposition from the
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the
lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tuber
cles ; in the glands, swelling* ; and on the surface,
eruptions or sore*. This foul corruption, which
genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life,
so that scrofulous constitution.* not only suffer from |
scrofulous complaints, but they have far less power
to withstand the attacks of other diseases; con
sequently, vast numbers peridi 1 y disorders which, j
although not scrofulous in their nature, are still ien- j
ilered fatal by this taint in the system. Most of j
the consumption which decimates thu human family j
has its origin directly in tHi- scrofulous contamina- !
tion ; and many destructive diseases of the liver, |
kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of ail the or„:i::.~, arise j
from or are aggravat* u by the same cause.
One quarter of all our people arc scrofulous;
their persons are invaded by this lurking infection,
and their health is undermined by it. To cleanse
it from the system we must renovate the blood
by an alterative medicine, an:! invigorate it by
healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we

Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla,
the most effectual remedy which the medical skill
of our times can devise for this every where pre
vailing and fatal malady. It is combined lrom the
most active remedial* that have been discovered for
the expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood,
and the rescue of the system from its destructive
consequences. Hence it should be employed for
the cure of not only scrofula, but also those other
affections which ari-e from it, such as Eruptive

\XrHEN a surface Plow is run at a depth of
* T twelve inches, and a two-horse Soil Lifting
Plow follows, which is capable of disintegrating to
a depth of fifteen inches more, there is a total dis
integrated depth of twenty-seven inches, and
those who so practice will find that they have an
other farm beneath tiiat represented on Iheir
map. A smaller size of this Plow, (one horse)
thinner in the sole and more dart-like in its figure,
is an admirable implement for cultivating crops,
and will do the work of more than forty men with
hoes. With the corn crop, this tool may run
close alongside the corn, and to the full depth of
twelve inches when the corn is but three inches
high, and before the roots occupy the space be
tween tho rows : this will lift the soil, move every
corn plant with the soil, and for so slight a dis
tance as not to separate the particles from the
roots, yet so completely loosening the mass that
the plant may be picked up with the fingers. This
is more thorough cultivation than can be obtained
by one hundred hoeings, leaving the soil in bet
ter tilth and cutting of no roots. More than
twenty thousand of these Plows were sold last
year.

Mapes* Phosphate, now make it their sol** reliance, nnd are or

So wide is tho field of its usefulness and so numerous
are the eases of its cures, that almost every Section of
country abounds in persons publicly known, who have
been restored from alannini; and even desperate dis
eases of the hinns by its use. When onee tried, its
superiority over every other medicine of its kind is too
apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues
are known, the public no longer hesitate what antidote
to employ fur the distressint; and dangerous affections
of the pulmonary orqans that are incident to onr

tiie community have failed and been discarded, this has
gained friend* by every trial, conferred benefits on the
alflicted they can never forget, nnd produced cures too
Humorous and too remarkable to be forgotten.
