The National Advocate states, that the
Committee appointed by the Common
Council of the Citynf New-York, to make
arrangements for the reception of General
Lafayette, have already prepared for him
a suite of splendid apartments irt the Ci’y

military display, in winch will be concen
trated the whole military force in a cir
cumference of 50 miles, to be reviewed by
the General, and probably amounting tit
20,000 men under arms, he will he invited

minated at night, together with the whole
City. A grand salute of'tOOguns will be
fi'od from Fait Lafayette, together with
salutes from the batteries and ships of wat

shipping. Every place of amusement

hilarity of the occasion, the day will be

We understand that Mr Crawford’s

lames, but do not think it worth while to

The U. S» schr. Grampus, John D.Sloat,
psq. commander, has arrived at the New
fork Quarantine ground. The Grampus
piled from Hampton Roads on the 28th
[el), lastj since which time she has cruized
'n the coast of Africa, through the West
ndiea and Gulf of Mexico. She has shewed
he American flag at thirteen different for-
Pgn ports. During the cruize she has been
h anchor in port only 288 hours, and in
~en roads 296 hours. She has made the

Extract of a letter from Trinidad (Cuba)
dated 4th inst. received via Havana.,
« A paratical schoonei was captured a
few days since off Key Briton (a few lea-
goes distant from this place) by one of II.
B. M. Schooners which arrived here and
sailed again a few days since with four nf
•he pirates for Jamaica; and it is to he pre
mimed that six or eight more will be secu
red, as sixty men were left on the Key in
pursuit nf the rest, who have little chance
of escaping, an their boats are destroyed.
T here is little doubt of their coming t.i a
speedy punishment, aa the captain of an
American schr. with his seamen (who were
in the possession of the Pirates when the
latter Were taken) have been tpken on _ to
Jamaica as evidence, stronger than which
is not needed.*

Late accounts trom Port-au-Ti ince, «t New
York, state that information Had be-n received
there from France, which led to the conclusion
that the French government were about to a-
dopt measures favorable to their commerce.
GOLD.—A letter from Curacoa of the 24th
of June says, "An event has taken place in Aru
ba, which surprises all. Very considerable
quantities of pure gold have been found in the
bed of a large ravine, and lumps of as much as
three ounces have been dug from the cliffs on

COTTON—The import from July 9th to the
16th, was 5 346 bales From N Carolina 250, S
Carolina 648, Virginia 115, New Orleans 734,
Georgia 3499—The late advices from Europe
have given an impulse to the Cotton market,and
sales and shipments were made to the extent of
several thousand bales. Some choice uplands,
between 2 and 200 bales, went of at 16} cents,
other descriptions at about last week’s quota
tinus. A lot of uplands and Alab of about 500
bales, was sold yesterday at 15} ctr.
FLOUR— Rather more has been done in this
art'de within a few days, but in some instances,
at lower rates than were obtained last week. It
is understood that considerable Western Flour
is about being shipped, a part of which on the
holders account— N. York sup j$5 50 a S 62,
Western do 5 62 a 5 75, Richnioud City 5 62,
Balt 5 50 a 5 75.
RICE—Importation 72 tierces, 2 half do -
'This article has been very heavy the present
week, and, with the (inception of »bout200 tier,
sold at £3 5-8, we have heard of no transactions.
It arrives very slowly, and in small parcels;
and die holders are firm in demanding ,our last

TOBACCO—There is no change in price in
this article. The demand for export is very
small—about 100 hhds have been sold since our
last, for home trade, and about 50 for the West
