coach travelling on the highway at the or

earriage was so slight, that the passengers
could read with perfect ease at ihe period
ofits utmost velocity, and, if the springs
on which tho carriage for the passengers
was mounted had been in perfect order, we
think it would not have been very difficult

ed himself--Nathl.J. Drake, agent for oh

pnnv” to the President and Directors of
tile Company, urging the Company to em
ploy the hearer. Tire paper was dated at

Mr. Drak'i had been induced to lease his
home and family in that city, and incur
the expenses of n journey to Baltimore tin
tier the hope of obtaining profitable em
ployment. In return fot the Information
which (ft* pseudo agent gave to the unstts-
peciingivtetimsofhis imposition, they were
required to pay Mm a bonus at one or fivo
dollars each. This circumstance alone
ought to have created a suspicion as to his
real character.
The young man also informed us that
one or two hundred Irish emigrants had
been imposed upon in a similar maftner,
and had been induced to sell at auction in
Boston their pick axes, and other imple
ments of labor for the purpose of raising
the funds necessary to defray the expense
of tlieir passage to Baltimore.
Tito effects of this deceit upon these
poor laborers trill fie almost rninous, and
for the pdlpetrator of it, if detected, scarce
ly any punishment would be ton severe.
