DU. McMUNN’S ELIXIR OP
OPIUM.
This is a new ehemiestyreparation, containing
ell the valuable MoiJiciiitii tjualities of Opium,
in a Natural state of Comhiiiuiioii, to the ex,
elusion of its Noxious principles.
1 71ULL piupnriiuu* of the greatest number
1 of iho noxious principles of Uuium, are
contained in Laudanum, paregoric, Black.drop,
Denarcotized Lamia mini. Extract of Opium.aud
such other opiate preparations of this class lutln
erto made, uud to which are justly attributed
those disagroeahio effects upon iho stomach and
nervous system, which so frequently follow ilnir
operation, and limit their usefulness.
This Elixir may be adopted in all those cases
ill winch either Opium or its preparation* are
administered, with iho certainly of obtaining all
their sedative, anodyne mid auti-rpaionodio ef*
feci*, without any ol these disagreeable couse>
quencei, of hondiache, iisusea. vomiting, coin
•tipatian, tremors, and a train of other unhappy
symptoms, which are often oe distressing us
those which it was applied to remove.
The Elixir of Opium is not only superior to
the artificial compounds of Morphine, in its bo*
ing more mild, permanent and uniform iu it* ef
feet*, but the preparation possesses also a snpe*
rior advantage to their Solution*, in not being
liable to decomposition or deterioration from
variable lemperaturo or lung keeping: a sorii
ous objection to which the latter ore exposed.
Fittuliy, Morphine, not being the foil repre
■en'ntive of Opium, cannot alone, and tb.it in
artificial combination too, produce all the char*
aeteriatic effects of so triumphal a remedy, when
*o many of ita other vuluhle pnuciples'asCodsiii,
Narcein and Mecuuio acid are excluded.
