Short Credits.— 1 Tho New York papers state
that a movement lias been mado by tho wholesale
jobbers of that city to roduco tho term of credit to
six and eight months, tho notes given not being
subject to renewal. It is urged that dealers gener
ally would consult their own permanent interest
by resolving on the shorter credit w ithout renew
als, and those who do this business *>nly will have
the advantage over thueo who give tho longer
credits. A large business ol this exiended credit
need not be envied. It requires a larger rato of profit
on all the business transacted to uiako that par
ticular kind at all mlo. The best customers, there
fore, are made to contribute f-»r tho nek attending
extended credit to other customers. Tho chief ob
stacle in tho way <>l bringing the now custom into*
general uao is the dilficuity «>f securing uniformity
