RANDALL Sc MERCER’S
Coltou-SeL-d Drill.
A LL Planter# have realized the want of a machlno
lo drill (Jetton need with regularity and certainly.
Oho that would operate equally well ou every kind of
land, nnd at the same Hmo be so »ln>ple In construction
ami operation that ll could bo used by negroes without
liability of getting out ol ofdcr. A drill which we think
possesses all these qtiall'le*. wo now offer to the plant
log community. Alter a thorough trial for the last two
years in different hoitdson all klnusof land, we would
state some oi thu advantages to be derived from Utelr'
1st. The envlug of seed, which will amount toenougSi
in planting one hundred acres, to pay for the machlno.
2nd. The saving of labor in planting, one horse and
hand only being required lo open the furrow, drop the
seed and cover front seven to iiitiu acres per day.
3rd. Thu great saving of labor In chopping out, the
seed being deposited In a lino one alter another.
4th. 'The great saving in subsequent hoe work. Owing
to the tact that any good plow-hand cau. Id siding, cov
er all the first crop of grass In tbe drill, however smell
thu cotton may be, without Injuring the stand.
These advantages all larmera will appreciate ;andb«-
low we give some certificates, from which the public
can learn how these drills are appreciated by gentlemen
of the first standing lu our section of tho titato—all
practical fanners, who have thoroughly tested them,
und ure consequently fully competent lo decldeon their
merits. .
CERTIFICATES:
This Is lo certify that I planted one hundred and six
ty acres of cotton wlllt Randall and Mercer's Planters,
and 1 consider them superior to nny thing of the kind I
have ever seen or tried. The saving of seed alone would
;>sy for the machines In a season or two, and 1 think a
iinud can do one-third more hoeing than he could In
cotton pluuted the common way.

ol great value. They aro a saving or about one-third
■>f the tabor of cultivation, about two to three bushels
of seed to tho acre lu planting, and a great saving of

I have used Randall k. Mercer’s cotton Planter two
seasons, and consider them of great value to the firm
er. I save seed enough each year to p«y for the Plant
ers, then I save at least oue-lhlrd the labor of cultlvo-
tion, as the cotton Is sowed In so narrow a line that with
good plowing ihere is but little hoe work needed. There
is also a saving of hands and horaet In planting. I
should say they were worth oue hundred aollaraeacb,
aud recommend every farmer to use them.

expect to plant cotton without them If 1 can get them

recommend all plunters who have not tried them, to

Is a great deal of labor saved in culllvallug a crop, ow
ing to its being so uniform In the drill, tho plowtug can

-upi-rscdes the necessity of a great deal of hard ho«
