1 have used Randall te Mercer’s cotton Planter two
seasons, and consider them t f great value lo the forma
er. I save seed enough each year to p«y for the Piant-
| ers, lhen I save at least one-third the labor of cultiva
tion, as the cotton is sowed iu so narrow a fine that with
good plowing there Is but little hoo work needed. There
<e also a saving of bends and horses in planting. I
should say they were worth one hundred dollars each,
aud recommend every farmer to use them.

above. DA VI.SOS D ARKES.
Messrs. Randall A- Mercer—Gentlemen: In reply to
•ours 1 will putv *&y 1 have used thr-e of your cotton
see-1 drill*, and consider them of great value, from the
fact that in theuse of them I saved from two to three
bushel* of see,I to each aero planted, and at least one-
third of tho labor of cultivation, not requiring one-half
as much hoe work as the old way of planting—also, a
amtUhrsble raring In the labor of planting. I never
expect to plant cotton without them if 1 can get them
at any price. 1 have planted eight ucres per day to each
drill. They are simple—easily in im ged.ond there Is no
difficulty about getting u good stand.
Very respectfully yours, *V. F. IIAMRICK.
Lee county, Geo-gta, July 12th, 1835.
Thomxsvillx, Thomas countv, Ga.
Col. J. //. Watson—Usar Sir : I can recommend
vourcotton Pointers (drill) In the highest terms. 1 have
fried them on all mv land except new ground, and I
hiuk they will do in t -at, they wi'l do lu a mountain-
•us country n« well a* tn a level. If I had not bought
I would travel to your shop which is 75 miles, aud pay
fifty dollars a piece for them. It saves one-third of the
work; one ham! can plan: n« much as two,and one namt
cun chon out three acres while one can chop out one acre
after u comm an plow. Yours reatiectlullr,
K. BRASWELL.
Docoiikrty county, Ga., July 14th, 1855.
J. IL Watson—Sir : This is lo certify that! have
u*ed Randall at Mercer's cotton seed drill of your man
ufacture, and am so well pleased with them that 1 would
recommend all planters who have not tried them, to
give them a fair trial. Where the drills are used"Tbera
is a great deal of labor saved in cultivating a crop, ow
ing io Its being so uniform in the drill, the plowing can
be done mu-. li better, and with greater despatch, con
sequently the hoe work is lighter, os good plowing
•up. rsedes the necessity of a great deal of hard hoe
work. JNO. BARKSDALE.
This is to certify that I used one of Randall te Mer
cer's cotton -eed drills last year in planting my crop, nnd
was well pleaded. I have used five of them the present
year, planting my eudrecrop, and ain still better pleas-
td. There is a saving of between two ml three bushels
nt seed to the acre tu planting, besides one horse and
•nehand with these drills does the w.-rk of three hands
and t*o horses. Then there is lue saving of one third
1 of the hoe work, the cotton being in so straight and nar
row a row. | consider them worth one hundred dollar*
■ each io any planter, and recommend all to purchase and
1 use them.
WM. 11. OWENS.
Dougherty county, Ga., July 10th, 1855.
Mkssrs. Randall te Mkrcir:—In reply to yours of
the 5lb Instant, in reference to your cotton seed drill, I
am happy to say that after planting a portion of my pre
sent crop iu tbe old way, I whs enabled to obtain one of
your drills, w-tli which I finished,
i Ills thedesiderntum and long sought after.
| Many and varied have been tbe attempts of intelligent
. minds to attain what you have accomplished, but with
only partial success. This leaves nothing to be desired
! in a cotton drill. It deposits the seed uniformly and con*
j tinuouily in a straight aud narrow line asyou wish, save*
about one half the labor in platiliug, und about one
i bird of the hoe work In cultivation. Il Is almost need,
-s :o add thul I am delighted with your drill.
Yours respectfully, J. E. MERCER.
Lee county, Ga., August loth, 1855.
Mkssrs. Randall te Mkhi zr— Gentlemen : fused
one of your cotton seed drills the past spring, and I leel
four fold paid for what It cost me. To give your drill a
lair trial, I plumed every other row with the drill, and
:he intervening rows I planted as welt as ever cotton
wa* planted hei. re your drill come Into use. Thereeult
was. that in the ■ ow planted with your drill Igotumoie
pcr’ecl stand, and I think it grew off much better, be-
eid* s I realized a great saving In the labor of working
over my cotton the two first times. 1 shall continue to
use them as leug as I p.oat cotton. Yours tec.
JESSE E COCK.

Messrs. Randall te Mercer—Gentlemen: I have
use eight of jour Cot ton-seed Drills, manufactured byJ
II Watson, on Col J Bond's Fowltown plantation, lam
much pleated with them, '-avlug realized great saving of
teed, of labor iu planting and chopping out, and the
hands a', the first siding could go over at least one-third
more in a day, ami do better work than in cotton plant
ed iu the best way I could plant with coulter and block.
I have uo hesitation In giving it as iny opinion that in
the use of your drills there is a saving of oue-ihlrd of
:he labor of cultivating a cotton crop. Col Bond is
pleased with them and will contiuue their use.
