The takings by ttee spinners for the
week have,been rather disappointing,
they seem to be afraid of the glnners.
Liverpool was a trifle lowbr than
expected this morning, however with
sales of 7,000 we are not afraid of
any material break in futures.

ADVICE
The human EYE is the
most delicate organ of the hu
man system.
A watch is a delicate piece
of mechanism and would wear
out if not kept in repair by
the proper person.
The same would apply to
your EYES. Should they be
come affected then the oculist
should be consulted who knows
all about the optical require
ments and can give | you the
proper ADVICE. SEE?

NEW YORK COTTON LETTER.
(Dally by Private Wire to Clark & Co )
Now York, Jan. 6.—Trading iq cot
ton options during the week has been
somewhat restricted at times, but the
market has displayed fair activity and
a firmer tone during the most of the
week. The market was mainly influ
enced by the strength of Liverpool
and better conditions abroad, follow
ing the gradual settlement of the Rus.
sian disturbances. The srveral census
reports were expected to add a favor
able influence to the market, and un
til Friday a good tone was displayed.
The publication of the National Gin-
ners’ report, however, giving the
amount of cotton ginned at 9,694,041
hales to the first, of January, was tak
en to mean that the census report on
Tuesday can easily approximate 9,900,-
000, and this in conjunction with the
increasing visible supplies ‘is not. re
garded as a favorable speculative in
fluence.
MARSHALL, SPADER &, CO.
We all have a gue^ coming, so
guess how many bates can be deliv
ered in March. \
One significant fact, and one* that
we should not lose sight of is that
tlie weight of the present crop will
average practically 25 pounds lighter
than last year. Although the weight
does not count with the sepculator, It
is a question of serious importance
with the spinner, and makes a differ
ence of practically 500,000 bales in
the total crop of 500 pound bales.
It Is an accepted fact/that if we are
to have a continuance o»’ high money
the*i market will decline, but if the
money market becomes easy we will
see higher prices.
. The market has the appearance of
being in a waiting mood.
No matter what the government
shows on Tuesday the bulls insist
that every bale will be needed.

His Letter Cal(e4 Fortn by News of

Here is another interesting letter,

Uotiuageu, in Roumania, possesses a
public festival which is probably
unique in the world. It is a little town
of about 1.200 inhabitants, And on the
morning of Its annual fair day the
population from about eighty villages
come trooping in lu swarms. To them
go out all the young women, married
or single, of Halmagen, each bearing a
small flower garland and vessel of
wine, nnd all attended by their, god
mothers. This last precaution is taken
from motives of deference for Mrs.
Grundy. As the visitors approach, the
young women offer to each a taste of}
wine and-a kiss. „ *
