Tlie origin of Egyptian civilization;
has been the enigma of the world for
the past twenty*live centuries. Pre
senting no historic or even mythic in
fancy, it appears before the world at
once ns a highly civilized iu*l organic
community centuries before Hoses was
a boy. Upon this subject Rtaau says,
“Egypt has no archaic epoch, but sud
denly takes its plnee in the world iu all\
its matchless magnificence, without fa
ther and without mother and as clean
apart from all evolution ns if it had
dropped from the unknown heavens.”

It grieves the surviving members
of Cnrnp Wm. M. Slaughter to hear of
the death of any of Its members. We
are called to chronicle the death of
Comrade Frank Outz, of South Caro
lina Volunteers, who. though of rough
and rugged exterior, had within a
WRrm, generous, tender heart. He
was a gallant soldier and followed with
conspicuous bravery the fortunes of
the tattered Confederate flag that fi
nally went down in defeat.
“We reverently bow our heads as
we place the laurel wreath upon the
graves of the gallant Cornelius Cof
fey, of Cutts’ Battalion of Artillery,
the brave Capt. Richard Hobbs, of the
Fifty-first Georgia Regiment, for a
long time the able commander of our
Camp: the worthy J. M. Tomlinson, of
the Twelfth Georgia Regiment; of
Theodore Mroczktfwskl, of Company
A. Second Georgia Reserves; the
warm-hearted, brave and splendid sol
dier and citizen, J. G. Stephens, of
Company E. Fourth Georgia Regiment.
"Our comrades are passing Into the
Great Beyond like a flood. It Is meet
and eminently proper that we should
pause in our marcl\ to meet them, we
should stop and think of their gallant
deeds, their suffering, their splendid
devotion to duty, to the noblest career
that ever actuated patriotic men. They
were brave and honest in their convic
tions, the defenders of their country
in her direst need. We commend them
to the care oi a merciful God, and the
living to a grateful country, which
Bhould care for them until they pass
over the river.
"Be It therefore resolved, That Camp
Slaughter will cherish their memory,
and that we request our secretary to
devote to each deceased comrade a
page in bur Camp register.

Yesterday morning some mean fel

they walked on It. From the report
The Herald got, the pavers went out
looking for blood when they saw that
sign.

The officers of the city and county
have made a number of raids on
"skin" dens during the last year or
two, and a great many negroes have
been either heavily fined or sent to the

Given Up to Die.
B. Speigel, 1204 N. Virginia St., Ev

yearB 1 was troubled with kidney and
bladder affections which caused me
much pain and worry. 1 lost flesh and
was all run down, and a year ago had
to abandon work entirely. I had three
of the best physicians, who did me no

me great relief; and after taking the
second bottle 1 was entirely cured."
